Computer destroyed

Hi all,

Thank you all for your help on this issue, I appreciate everyone's helps and support with all the new virus and spyware problems.  My computer is acting very slow, many programs do not work, and most importantly, the internet has shut down completely (comcast and dell support has ruled OUT both hardware and internet problems as the cause, saying it is software).  Here is my HJT log...

The following are optional; however, any time your are running any type of P2P application, you are FAR more prone to infection by malware. Your current infections are likely due to P2P use.

BitTorrent 3.4.2

Please note any other programs that you dont recognize in that list in your next response

1. Please download Ewido Anti-Malware
  • Install ewido anti-malware
  • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop, double-click it.
  • The program will now open to the main screen.
  • When you run ewido for the first time, you may get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.

  • You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
    • On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
    • Then click on Start Update.
  • The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.

Close ewido anti-malware.
5. Then, please go to Start > My Computer and navigate to the C:\BFU folder.
  • Start the Brute Force Uninstaller by doubleclicking BFU.exe
  • Behind the scriptline to execute field click the folder icon and select alcanshorty.bfu
  • Press Execute and let the program do its job. (You ought to see a progress bar if you did this correctly.)

hi,

when running ewido, the program scans the system and begins to delete.  at a certain folder, however, about halfway through the computer began to lock up and the program took up to 5 minutes to delete each file.  i closed, restarted, and ran again and got the same result.  i deleted most of the files but i dont think i can get a log of the ewido scan.  Additionally, since i am unable to connect to the internet, i can't find a way to run the pandascan.  I shoudl have the new HJT post up by tonight.

can you let me know what file/folder it locks up on?

also, regarding your internet connection:

download and run winsockfix from here (you'll have to download it from another computer and transfer it): http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Network-Tweak/WinSockFix.shtml

see if that fixes your internet connection.

hi,

the program usually locks when deleting a folder (not specific files).  C:/documentsandsettings/scott_new/complete.  Normally i get a message saying this file is embedded in the folder, do you wish to delete the whole archive.  I click yes and it goes to the next file in the "complete" folder (there are over 1500 items).  However, when i hit a certain area each file takes around 5 minutes to delete instead of being instant like usual.

when i look for this folder in my documents and settings folder, it does not exist even with hidden folders being shown.  half a year ago i had a virus and ran ewido and it this folder still existed (although i still had an internet connection then even with the folder).

i ran the program and the internet is still out for some reason or another, but here is the new HJT log...

It looks like you are getting reinfected. How current is your antivirus subscription? This is extremely important b/c if you are not running an up-to-date antivirus, cleaning your computer is futile because you will be quickly reinfected.

If you do not have current antivirus subscription, I have several free alternatives that I can offer.

Let me know in your next post.

********************************

You have the latest version of VX2. Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

If you receive, while running option #1, an error similar to:
''C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe
C:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt
the system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications. choose close to terminate the application.."
...then please use option 5 or the web page link in the l2mfix folder to solve this error condition.
Then rerun option 1 to be sure it will run without errors.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other options in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Open HijackThis, click Config, click Misc Tools
Click " Open Uninstall Manager"
Click "Save List" (generates uninstall_list.txt)
Click Save, copy and paste the results in your next post.

********************************

in your next post, please include
  • new hijackthis log
  • uninstall list
  • L2mfix log

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option # 2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Note : Once the pc has restarted if a log does not appear or the icons didn't dissappear, run the "second.bat" located inside the L2mfix folder.

In your next post, please include:
  • l2mfix log
  • new HijackThis log

Please download Look2Me-Destroyer.exe to your desktop.

* Close all windows before continuing.
* Double-click Look2Me-Destroyer.exe to run it.
* Put a check next to Run this program as a task.
* You will receive a message saying Look2Me-Destroyer will close and re-open in approximately 10 seconds. Click OK
* When Look2Me-Destroyer re-opens, click the Scan for L2M button, your desktop icons will disappear, this is normal.
* Once it's done scanning, click the Remove L2M button.
* You will receive a Done Scanning message, click OK.
* When completed, you will receive this message: Done removing infected files! Look2Me-Destroyer will now shutdown your computer, click OK.
* Your computer will then shutdown.
* Turn your computer back on.
* Please post the contents of C:\Look2Me-Destroyer.txt and a new HiJackThis log.

If you receive a message from your firewall about this program accessing the internet please allow it.

If you receive a runtime error '339' please download MSWINSCK.OCX from the link below and place it in your C:\Windows\System32 Directory.

It looks like you have been infected by variety of backdoor trojans.

This allows hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and Download and Execute files

Its very possible that anything could have been installed on your computer by the remote attacker, including opening other backdoors and installing rootkits. While we can attempt to clean what we see in your logs, we can't guarantee that your computer will be completely in the clear since we have no way of knowing that has been done to the computer. Your computer could be completely compromised at this moment. It may be prudent to backup your information, reformat, and reinstall.

More information on Remote Access Trojans can be found here

I suggest you do the following immediately:

1. Call all of your banks, credit card companies, financial institutions and inform them that you may be a victim of identity theft and to put a watch on your accounts or change all your account numbers.

2. From a clean computer, change *all* your online passwords -- for email, for banks, financial accounts, PayPal, eBay, online companies, any online forums or groups you belong to.

Do NOT change passwords or do any transactions while using the infected computer because the attacker will get the new passords and transaction information.

If, however, you decide that the computer is not used for any sensitive work, or if you do not wish to reformat at this time, I can definitely help you clean your computer to the best of my abilities.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Please let me know what you decide to do in your next post.

if you do decide to clean your computer, go ahead and follow the instructions i gave you in the previous post.
