Hi Guys

Well, I have eventually installed Spybot (including the fix), Ad Aware, and Spyblaster on three of the pc's on my little network, and on this Dell Laptop. Now, here is the thing. All these computers are no more than three weeks old. Aside from the Dell, mostly the others, whilst having dsl connection, are mostly used mainly for email only and not much browsing - and I have found considerable amounts of spyware on these machines.

It will be hugely interesting when I install and run these applications on my old laptop, which has years of web browsing behind it, and is now so slow I decided to just get a new laptop. I will undoubtedly finds loads of malware on it.

One more question: One of my machines is still running Win 98 2nd edition. Its a p4 with 128 megs ram. Will this machine handle spybot, Adaware and Spyblaster??

Anyway, thanks so much for the help.

Harry

at work, I'm still regularly using a win 98 SE machine, pentium 3, and both Ad-Aware & SpyBot run fine on it.  (i cannot make any comment about spyblaster, since I'm not using it).  things may run a tad slower on a slower processor, but they do run.

by the way, e-mail (and also Instant Messaging) are prime ways thru which viruses, worms, and trojans are spread.  you have to be extra careful any time you open an attachment... even if it allegedly comes from a person you know (and trust)... because one of the 'features' of several malware programs is that they can FORGE e-mails from you, pretending to come from your friends, hoping that you might be tricked into opening it!

I am not sure about the compatibility of spyware blaster and Win 98, but it uses no resources, except when updating.
