check to see if there's an entry for SurfSideKick in the Add/Remove Programs component of your Control Panel.... if so, that's the easiest way to stop it.

I was doing a little Googling in both the error message and "surf side kick" and it appears this is not a good thing. If ky331's advice doesn't work and it is not in the Add/Remove programs, you might run a HJT log and see if they can help you dig it out of your computer.

Dale,

Off subject to some degree, actually a lot (if you ask me "why" in a PM, would explain)
Your post in Dim-Hard drive, try Section 15, article 18 of the CD/RW link, title different but steps same, also Dell released BIOS updates to address this issue, helped some but not all.

Best Regards

God, grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway,
the good fortune to run into the ones I do and the eyesight to tell the
difference.

Thanks for your reply ky331, does seem kinda lonely on that forum now, I appreciate all you try to do for these people.

And Jeff, I will try out what you say about the bios and have another question that I will post on the CD board today about some other things. I think I set up my profile to not PM, will try to go back and change it.  Where would I go to get the Dell bios update?  I am still on a steep learning curve when it comes to computers in general...and I guess when Vista comes out next, (supposedly), it will be even more complex:smileywink:

I had the same problem. I hope that I solved the problem of deleting SurfSideKick 3. I went to program files and sent SurfSideKick to my recycle bin. Since it would not delete from the recycle bin I made a second recycle bin and it disappeared, then I deleted the second recycle bin It's nowhere to be found. I sure hope it worked!

If Surfsidekick does not have an entry in Add/Remove, you could try using it's built-in uninstaller.

Open a cmd window and type in:
C:\Program Files\SurfSideKick 3\Ssk.exe /u
[enter]

It will display a code that the user should enter and after a reboot it will be uninstalled.

The way to get rid of surfsidekick3 is to run spybot search and destroy  (download it from download.com) in safe mode and its gone.

Make sure to update spybot before you use it.
