Have DLL problem, and cannot use computer

Every time I try to turn my computer on, I reach the Windows desktop and receive a message about a problem with COMIGN.DLL which means that explorer will have to shut down.  After that point, I click ok and nothing comes on my screen.  I cannot use any part of windows.  I reboot my computer, and every time the same thing happens.  I get as far as Windows desktop as if all were well, then suddenly the error message pops up.  After this point, explorer shuts down and I am left staring at a blank desktop.

Since I CANNOT even use windows to download a scumware removal program or anti-virus softwhere, how do I get around this problem.  Is there a backdoor way I can fix this problem?

Are you sure you spelled the name of the .dll file correctly.  I got no hits on comign.dll, which is very unusual.  Can you boot to Safe Mode?

If not post a hijackthis log from the instructions below.
--------------------------
Use these to remove Malware (Spyware and Adware).

1) SpyBot Search and Destroy
After installing SpyBot Search & Destroy, first press Online, and search for, put a check mark at, and install all updates.
Next, close all Internet Explorer windows, hit 'Check for Problems', and have SpyBot remove all the items it marks in red.

2) Get Ad-Aware
After installing Ad-Aware, and before running the program, first press “check for updates now".
Click "Connect" and install all updated components available. Click 'Finish'.
Press "Scan Now", then 'next', and let Ad-Aware scan your drives.
It will find a number of "bad" files and registry keys. Click 'Next' again.
Check all found items, and click 'next' once more.
It will ask you whether you'd like to remove all checked items. Click OK.

Always reboot the computer between each program - both of these may find things that they need to have a reboot of the machine to clear - please reboot and let them finish .

Failing those solving your problems a post of a hijackthis log for the experts to advise.
HijackThis From Here
or one of these other links:-
http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip
http://www.aluriasoftware.com/tools/hijackthis.zip
http://mjc1.com/mirror/hjt/

Important: Create a folder on the C: drive called C:\HJT.
You can do this by going to My Computer (Windows key+e) then double click on C: then right click and select New then Folder and name it HJT.
Unzip HijackThis into this folder. When you run HijackThis from this folder and have it "Fixed checked" it will create a backup file of modifications to use if restore is necessary. Then run, scan, save log, then in notepad copy the FULL log by copy and paste as a reply to this post and an expert with HijackThis Knowldge, will have a go at giving advice. Please note the list of experts names below, very few forum regulars here have had this training.

Yes, but what do you do if your system won't operate.  If you cannot enter windows.  You get an error message and then your machine just sits there and you can't do anything...

As for the file name, I'm away from my computer.  It is something like COMGBI.dll or COMNBI.dll, something close.  Is there somewhere I can look at a list.  It's all I have to go on.

I don't know how to start in safe mode I'm afraid.  I don't know if that would be possible.

Normally you tap F8 during the boot up process.

Unfortunatly, this is like walking into your auto service repair shop and stating "my car won't work."   They will ask for year, make and model of the car and several more questions about the problem.

Can you download HijackThis to a diskette on a non-infected computer and run it on the infected computer capturing the log it produces.   Paste its log here.

Thanks for your patience.  My computer still "doesn't work".

The file name that pops up is comigb.dll

I'll try safe mode - is this what you mean by f8?

Yokenny, means the key on your keyboard on the top marked 'F8'. Press that while it is booting up from cold.
