Hi cypress...
One thing I did notice right away is that your running HijackThis from your Temp folder...
C:\Documents and Settings\Melvyn Ng\Local Settings\Temp\HijackThis.exe
HijackThis needs to run from it's own folder because of backups...also one of the fixes is to empty the Temp folder so we would lose everthing. Please follwing the instructions below then post back a new log.
Thanks,
- Download the latest HijackThis version 1.99.1 from http://downloads.malwareremoval.com/HijackThis.exe
- Save it on the root of your C: Drive to a folder called C:\HJT or C:\HijackThis
- To create the folder...
1. Open "My Computer"
2. Double-click "C:" or "Local Disk (C: )"
3. Right-click in an open area in that window
4. Select/left-click on "New" from the drop-down
5. Select/left-click on "Folder"
6. A folder will appear with the cursor blinking and the words "New Folder" will be highlighted
7. Name the folder C:\HJT or C:\HijackThis

==========
We first need to temporarily disable Microsoft Antispyware as it may interfer with our "Fixes"
- Open " Microsoft AntiSpyware"
- Click on Options then select Settings
- In left-hand window click on Real-time Protection
- Under Startup Options de-select\uncheck Enable the Microsoft AntiSpyware Security Agents on startup (recommended)
- Under Real-time spyware threat protection de-select\uncheck Enable real-time spyware threat protection (recommended)
- Click Save button to save your changes
- Close Microsoft AntiSpyware
- Right-click on the " Microsoft AntiSpyware" icon on the taskbar
- Select Shutdown Microsoft AntiSpyware
- Click Yes at next window
(Note: After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again)
==========
- Download " CWShredder 2.14" from http://cwshredder.net/bin/CWShredder.exe and save it to its own folder named C:\CWS
(Note: Do not run this program yet)
==========
- Download and install CleanUp! from http://downloads.stevengould.org/cleanup/CleanUp40.exe
- A tutorial for CleanUp! can be found at http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial93.html
(Note: Do not run this program yet)
==========
- Download " SpSeHjfix112" from http://www.derbilk.de/SpSeHjfix112.zip and save it to its own folder named C:\spfix
- Extract\unzip in the folder
- Disconnect from the Internet
- Close all open Windows and Programs
- Run " SpSeHjfix112.exe"
- Click on " Start Disinfection"
- When it's finished it will reboot your machine to finish the cleaning process.
- If it doesn't find any of the SE files or any hidden reinstallers it will say system clean and not go on to next stage
(Note: The tool creates a log of the fix which will appear in the folder)
==========
- Run the CWShredder program in the C:\CWS folder
- Double-click on " CWShredder.exe" to start it
- Click the " Fix ->" button
- You will be prompted that CWShredder will shutdown any Internet Explorer and Windows Media Player windows. click " OK" to continue
- Let it run completely to delete anything it finds
- After its scan, click "Next", then "Exit"
==========
We now need to cleanup all the Temp files and such
- Start the CleanUp! program I had you download earlier
- Click on the CleanUp! button and let it run to completion
(Note: It may take a few minutes depending on the size of your hard drive so be patient)
==========
- Reboot your computer
- Post a new fresh HijackThis log
- Post the log that was created by 'SpSeHjfix'

Hi mel...
Your log looks much better. Let's continue on with the fix...
Please print out or copy these instructions\tutorials to Notepad as the internet will be unavailble to you at certain points of the removal process. Make sure to work through all the Steps in the exact order in which they are listed below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before moving on with the fixes.
Step 1.
==========
We first need to temporarily disable Microsoft Antispyware as it may interfer with our "Fixes"
- Open "Microsoft AntiSpyware"
- Click on "Options" then select "Settings"
- In left-hand window click on "Real-time Protection"
- Under "Startup Options" de-select\uncheck "Enable the Microsoft AntiSpyware Security Agents on startup (recommended)"
- Under "Real-time spyware threat protection" de-select\uncheck "Enable real-time spyware threat protection (recommended)"
- Click "Save" button to save your changes
- Close "Microsoft AntiSpyware"
- Right-click on the "Microsoft AntiSpyware" icon on the taskbar
- Select "Shutdown Microsoft AntiSpyware"
- Click Yes at next window
(Note: After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again)
Step 2.
==========
- Download the following reg file from http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/reg/smitfraud.reg
- Save it to your Desktop
(Note: Do not run this reg file yet)
Step 3.
==========
- Enable all "Hidden Files and Folders" in Windows. Instructions can be found at http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial62.html
Step 4.
==========
- Close all Windows and programs
- Run HijackThis...
- Select\check the following entries, Double-check to make sure that only these entries are checked...
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =

- Click the "Fix checked" button...
Step 5.
==========
- Reboot computer into "Safe Mode". Instructions can be found at http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial61.html
Step 6.
==========
Delete the following file(s) in BOLD only. (Don't be concern if they do not exist)
c:\wp.exe <<<= This File
c:\wp.bmp <<<= This File
Step 7.
==========
- Reboot your computer to go back to normal mode.
Step 8.
==========
- Double-click on the "smitfraud.reg" file I had you save to your desktop
- When asked if you would like to merge the data, click on the Yes button
Step 9.
==========
Lets clean out the "Temp" and "Temporary Internet Files"
- Click the "Start" button, then "RUN"
- Enter cleanmgr in the "RUN" menu to start XP's "Disk Cleanup" tool
- Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are selected then click OK
Step 10.
==========
- Reboot your computer and you should now be able to change your desktop settings back to how you would like it. If your desktop still looks strange, go into your display properties and click on the Themes tab. Change the theme to Windows XP and you will now be using the default Windows XP settings. Then change them as you see fit.
Step 11.

Hi mel...
I'm just not 100% that the DllCompare worked correctly last time. Could you please try this again using the following instructions.
- Download DllCompare from http://downloads.subratam.org/DllCompare.exe.
- Double-click on DllCompare.exe to run the program.
- Make sure that at the left top window that "C:\Windows\System32" is entered.
- Make sure that at the right top window that "*.dll" is selected.
- Click "Run Locate.com" and it will scan your system for files.
- Once the scan has finished click "Compare" to compare your files to valid Windows files.
- Once it has finished comparing click "Make a Log of what was found".
- Click "Yes" at the View Log file? prompt to view the log.
- Copy and paste the entire log into this topic.
- If you accidentally close out of the log it is also saved as log.txt to where you saved DllCompare.exe.
- Click "Exit" to exit DLLCompare.
Please post back the DllComapre logMessage Edited by dobhar on 05-13-2005 04:59 PM
