Help My Computer Live, check HJT LOG!

For I don't know how long now my computer has been acting funny, but recently this has kicked into high gear. Please help me solve this problem. I have been running adaware SE which says it is getting rid of most things until start up, then it says that it has quarantined and erased all of them, yet every time I rescan, their they are. I also run McAfee Virus Scan which is constantly popping up and finding numerous viruses. When I press Clean, Delete, or Move all three fail, and I am stuck staring helplessly at the problems eating my computer. Please help. My Internet connection and running speed have taken a huge hit. Here is my HJT Log:

Hi C-Rob...

Looks like your infected with a Peper Trojan and a CWS. You are also running HijackThis from a RAR file within your Temp folder. HijackThis needs to run in a folder on it's own. When we get you to use HJT to "FIX" the "bad" entries it creates backups and if you run it from a RAR file it cannot create those backups.

Please print out these instructions as all Windows\Programs should be closed before running the fixes below.

Let's get started. Please follow the instructions below...

Step 1.
=======
- Download HijackThis from here
- Save it on the root of your C: Drive to a folder called C:\HJT or C:\HijackThis
1. Open "My Computer"
2. Double-click "C:" or "Local Disk (C: )"
3. Right-click in an open area in that window
4. Select/left-click on "New" from the drop-down
5. Select/left-click on "Folder"
6. A folder will appear with the cursor blinking and the words "New Folder" will be highlighted
7. Name the folder HJT or HijackThis

Step 2.
=======
- Download CWShredder 2.14 from here
- Save it to its own folder named C:\CWS
- Double-click on CWShredder.exe to start it
- click the "Fix ->" button
- You will be prompted that CWShredder will shutdown any Internet Explorer and Windows Media Player windows. Click "OK" to continue
- Let it run completely to delete anything it finds
- After its scan, click "Next", then "Exit"

Step 3.
=======
- Download the Peper Trojan Removal Tool from here
- Save it to your Desktop
- Double-click the "Peperfix.exe" file
- Click the "Find and Fix" button to start the cleaning process
- After complete reboot and run the tool again

Step 4.
=======
- Please reply back to this thread and post back a new HijackThis log. Do not start a new one!

When I ran CWSHREDDER IT removed one file, but when I ran peper remover it said there were no files found, and did not prompt me to re-boot. I rebooted anyway and ran the scan again. Again, no files found but each time I ran the scan, My virus scan would pop up saying that it had detected a virus. This virus was: Dmbntfs.exe located in C:\WINDOWS\System32 Let me know what that means.
Here is my new log:

Hi C-Rob...

Got your new log...Did you have any IE Windows open when you were running any of the fixes?

Let's try this again but this time from "Safe Mode".

Note: Please print out or copy these instructions\tutorials to Notepad as the Internet will be unavailable to you at certain points of the removal process. Please also make sure that all windows and programs are closed as this will inhibit the repair.

Make sure to work through all the Steps in the exact order in which they are listed below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before moving on with the fixes.

Step 1.
======
- Reboot computer into Safe Mode. Instructions can be found here

Step 2.
======
- Enable all Hidden Files and Folders in Windows. Instructions can be found here

Step 3.
======
- Make sure all windows are closed...even this one = Very Important
- Double-click the "Peperfix.exe" file
- Click the "Find and Fix" button to start the cleaning process
- After complete reboot PC and get back into Safe Mode
- Run the tool again

Step 4.
======
- Reboot computer into Normal Mode
- Reply back with a new HijackThis log

I did everything you said with the exception of running the virusscans. Neither one would work, because I am not using IE instead I have MozillaFireFox, and after the problems I've had am hesitant to use IE. If you need me to still do those let me know. Also When killing the processes in HJT C:\Program Files\Media Access\MediaAccK.exe and C:\Program Files\Media Access\MediaAccess.exe would be deleted and then reappear after the refresh. I repeated this step numerous times sometimes being greeted by a critical error saying that the file was protected. I ran Adaware SE right before I checked this message and got your feedback. I'm worried that maybe by quarantining some of the files I messed with the process. Just letting you know. Overall most things worked great. let me know where we go from here. HJT LOG:

Ok, Did everything. Media Access did show up on my add/remove programs list, then when I went to change/remove, it said it was already deleted and so I removed it from the list. It was not in my processes, but was on my hjt log, which I deleted it from. I ran the house call scan through IE and it found seven uncleanable viruses. Here's my HJT:

Hi C-Rob...

Were the 7 uncleanables in the System Restore? Did the log look something like...(Note: example only...)
C:\System Volume Information\_restore{92CE5895-FA0B-4F05-9A9C-D6D83EA5EB80}\RP127\xxxxxx.exe

If that was the case then disable System Restore, reboot your computer, then re-enable System Restore. Create a new Restore point immediatly.
Instuctions can be found here

After doing the above please run the 2 scans that I suggested earlier..
IE online scanner
=> Trend Micro Housecall
=> TrojanScan

or

Firefox or any other browser to run it as long as the browser supports Java
=> Trend Java Scan

Please post back the results of the online scans

Thanks,

Ok. So I did everything, created a new restore point and got rid of the old ones. yes you were right about the majority of the problems being system restore, but there have been others as well. I ran Trend Micro House Java Scan and it came up completely clean, good right? Except that as the scan ended my own Mcafee VirusScan Alerted me to two spyware scripts that are as follows: inetp60.dll In folder: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 Detected as: Adware-Browseraid.dll Program (Clean Failed) Application type: Java.exe
and
SaveInstCm.exe In Folder: C: Detected as Adware-SaveNow Program (Clean Failed) Application type: Java.exe.
Is there no way to wash this filth completely off my computer? Please help, and maybe its just a problem with my virusscan, Here is an HJT Log anyway, just to be thorough.

Hi C-Rob...

They sound like "False Positives" as there is nothing in log HijackThis log that points to these "Malwares". As far as I am concerned your PC is clean.

Run Ad-aware SE 1.05 and Spybot S&D and see what they come up with. Instructions are below.

I would also recommend that you run CleanUp!. A tutorial can be found here

___________________________________

This is my normal post for when you are clear - which you now are - or seem to be. Please advise of any problems you still have

Now that your log looks clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

  1. Disable and Enable System Restore. - If you are using Windows ME or XP then you should disable and reenable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point. You can find instructions on how to enable and reenable system restore here:

    Managing Windows Millenium System Restore or Windows XP System Restore Guide

    Renable system restore with instructions from tutorial above

  2. Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:

    1. From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.

    2. Click once on theSecurity tab

    3. Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.

    4. Click once on the Custom Level button.

      1. Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt

      2. Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable

      3. Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable

      4. Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt

      5. Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt

      6. Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt

      7. When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.

      8. If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.

    5. Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.

  3. Use an AntiVirus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future. See this link for a listing of some online & their stand-alone antivirus programs:
    Virus, Spyware, and Malware Protection and Removal Resources

  4. Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

  5. Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over. I am very serious about this and see it happen almost every day with my clients. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly. For a tutorial on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:
    Understanding and Using Firewalls

  6. Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

  7. Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option. This will provide realtime spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software. A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
    Using Spybot - Search & Destroy to remove Spyware , Malware, and Hijackers

  8. Install Ad-Aware - Install and download Ad-Aware. ou should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software in conjunction with Spybot. A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
    Using Ad-aware to remove Spyware, Malware, & Hijackers from Your Computer

  9. Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs. A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
    Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware

  10. Install IE-SPYAD - IE-SPYAD adds a list of sites and domains associated with advertisers, marketers, and crapware pushers to the Restricted sites zone of Internet Explorer. A tutorial on installing & using IE-SPYAD can be found here:
    Using IE-Spyad to enhance your privacy and security

  11. Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

Glad we were able to help.
