How to reinstall McAfee Security after upgrading to Windows 7

I purchased a new dell (Studio XPS desktop) in September.  It came with Windows Vista and was eligible for a Windows 7 upgrade.  It also came with 36 months of McAfee Security Center.  Today I upgraded to Windows 7.  The upgrade assistant had me uninstall McAfee.  Once Windows was run and several softwares were reinstalled automatically, nothing occurred to reinstall McAfee and I cannot figure out how to go about doing so.

Any advise would be appreciated.  It would seem Dell would have some patch or download for this but I haven't found anything....  :emotion-42:  Thank you!

Hi colleen and welcome to DeLL Forums.

If you register your McAfee, you can download it from here:

http://home.mcafee.com/Store/Downloads.aspx

Remember to deactivate your security programs that you are using right now to be able to download and install McAfee. I know, it is crazy and I did not like it either, but when I used McAfee, I had to go to that address and downloaded and installed it, otherwise it would tell you that it can not install it because you are using another security program.

You can request a set of back up disk for your system in the USA here

http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/dellcare/en/backupcd_form?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&redirect=1

and hope that a copy of McAfee is in the set, or call support.

Mean while you can use any of these free programs to be safe in the web while you secure your copy of McAfee.

Hope it helps you.

Thank you!

How do I register with McAfee when it came with the computer from Dell?  The software for my system is available under my account on the Dell site, however when I try to reinstall McAfee is says it is incompatible.

Thanks!  It's taken care of.  Prior to receiving this email from you I decided to go to McAfee and attempt chat for assistance.  They took care of it and did so promptly.  I attempted such assistance with Dell and the chat option wouldn't even work (kept getting warning that site couldn't be found).

I appreciate your help!  Have a great night!   Colleen :emotion-1:

colleen.

If I am right, it was when McAfee came out the first time in your machine. If I am wrong, you can try here:

I also need to reload my McAfee. I bought this Studio XPS w/Windows Vista in May 09 & bought a 3 year warranty when I bought the computer thru Dell, meaning my warranty should not expire till 2012. Last year I started recieving a renewal notice that it was gonna expire. I called McAfee & told this lady that they must be getting that mixed up with my other computer, but that one wasn't expired either, so she refunded my over charge & she told me to uninstall the McAfee & re-install with the CD that came with the PC.

I did that & the next day it tells me that it was a 30 day trail so it was expired. Soooo, when I bought this PC, they sent me the wrong CD for my McAfee, instead of sending me a 3 year McAfee Cd, they send me a 30 day trail ! I was really upset by then, so I called back. I get a gentleman on the phone that says ok, we'll reinstall it. So he takes over my PC & re-installs it & I can tell right a way that it's not the right one. So I told him, this is NOT the one I had, this is the cheaper version that doesn't cover as much. He tells me, "well, I'm sorry, this is all we can do, you should call Dell". I've been so busy at work that I just let it go, but my husband was very mad, because we PAID Dell for this. And we're getting the run-a-round with the McAfee people.

Wellll, now we are getting ANOTHER expiration notice that it expired today ! It does not expire till May of  2012 !!! What in the world do I have to do to get these people to get this right ?? I have no virus protection as of today.

I need your help quickly.

Thanks so much,

Hi cwilliams.

It´s been a while since I ran McAfee in my comp, but you must be a register user, so try here:

https://home.mcafee.com/Secure/Protected/Login.aspx

Afterwards, you can try to download it from here:

https://home.mcafee.com/Secure/Protected/Login.aspx

Meanwhile you can use any ( just one ) of these Free Anti Virus. BTW they are the most used AV for us members of the Community Forums:

http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/default.aspx

http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download

while you sort out with DeLL or McAfee your problem.

You can have a go to this page from Joe, a veteran of this Forum, to understand what you realy need in your PC:

Hope it helps.
