Inspiron 5000e Invalid system disk error when trying to reinstall Windows
We have an Inspiron 5000e Laptop. It has a new hard-drive with 10 gigs and 256 Ram at this time.
We bought it from someone who had Windows XP loaded but wiped the hard-drive clean (completely deleted Windows XP) upon giving it to us. He said all we have to do is put in our Windows XP CD into the CD-Rom and it will load just fine.
When I go to load my Windows XP (Home Edition) I get this error: "
Invalid system disk, insert a disk and press any key." It acts like it's trying to read the CD I insert in the CD-Rom but then stops and comes up with this message. I am able to access Bios by pressing F2 upon startup and switched the boot to the CD-Rom to see if that might help any.
This is an origianl install disk of Windows XP with key & even original booklet. It was, however, the install disk from a former desktop computer we owned that took a hardware dive.
Can any of you give me any insight on this. If this Laptop isn't compatable with Windows XP then how could he have gotten it to load? We saw the thing had XP on it. Maybe it's the CD itself. The only problem with that is when I put the CD into a spare desktop computer we have it reads it perfectly and tries to proceed with installation. Then there is the CD-Rom... It does act like it's trying to read the disk.
Thank you for your help/advice.
