KB3035583 ??
Anybody know anything about KB3035583 that was pushed today? The KB article just says something very vague about increased update capabilities...
Got it offered on Win 7 Pro (32-bit) system today, but not rushing to install it...
Thanks.

Thanks for the warning Bintoito. I will put this Optional update into the Hidden (i.e., do not install) section. Yet, the reason is not because it might break something (although, that is a good reason), but because it is unnecessary and probably for something unrelated to my Win 7 system.
Whenever Micro$oft says an update will improve something but they don't say how, then you can expect it is something to improve Micro$oft's corporate experience, not the customers'. I have read this may be an update to prepare Win 8.1 and Win 7 SP1 systems to help with the Micro$oft 10 suitability assessment or upgrade.

Hi again,
Well, I reinstalled the update alone after the system restore and everything is fine, so either the first time I installed Windows updates, one of them got somehow corrupted or was something else that got fixed with system restore....
cheers

Hi,
Just registered on purpose on this fórum to report that after installing this update my laptop (Samsung i7, 500 GB SSD) started having a huge lag after rebooting to desktop. Usually even after a full reboot I can get to the desktop and start doing things in about 20s, but now almost a full minute passes before any icon even appears! Only the desktop background appears.
Restored to earlier time and everything came back to normal...!!
I'm on Win 8.1 and thought I'de share this because apparently this hasn't happened to no one else in the internet which is kind of strange..!

I am seeing that KB3035583 is an optional update on all my Windows 7 and 8.1 machines. I think I will wait to install this update.

For anyone else reading this thread (I know Ron already knows this):
it's an OPTIONAL update, with the following vague description: "This update enables additional capabilities for Windows Update notifications when new updates are available to the user. It applies to a computer that is running Windows 8.1
Like Ron, I think I'm gonna pass on this one...

I stopped installing all optional opdates from MSU/WU years ago.
They are about as useful as the driver updates that MS offers.

I know this new one is optional. Just trying to figure out what it actually does and why...
KB2952664 had a similar description a few days ago and I declined it. That one apparently is needed to update to Win 10, but since I'll never put Win 10 on this system, I didn't bother to install it.
Just wish MacroStupid would be more specific about these updates. I understand they need to be obtuse when it's a security update but that's not an excuse for being vague about optional updates like these 2 new ones...

My mother just installed this update on her Windows 7 laptop. Nothing works. Internet Explorer freezes and other program will not open. We tried to restore the laptop to an earlier time and still have problems. Not sure where to go from here. I could not get the programs updates in the control panel to fully load so we did the restore. The laptop won't shut down unless we do a hard shutdown with the power button. Any suggestions since the restore did not work?

Can you reboot, press F8 and pick "last known good" from the menu? If that works, shut down normally and reboot normally.
If that doesn't work, you may need to do a Windows repair from the F8 menu, but be sure to back up all personal files on external media first.
There's just no end to the misery caused by MacroStupid... :emotion-7:

Last know good-did not work , also tried the startup repair and that did not correct the problems. Programs open very slowly or not at all, computer does not shut down or if it does it takes 20 minutes or more. I think I will take this laptop to a repair shop where hopefully they will have more tools than I to fix it. My time is very limited. Thanks RoHe for the suggestions.

Back up your personal files before you take it to the shop.
And maybe even delete the important ones with data you wouldn't want strangers to see from the hard drive after you back them up on external media.
Let us know what happens...

Hi guys,
the strange slowdowns after reboot are back...already restored to before this update but it didn't fix...not even sure if what I'm experiencing has to do with this particular update or has some other cause.
Just to remind:
After a windows 8.1 full reboot my i7 + 500GB Samsung Evo SSD goes to desktop but no icons appear, that is, its as if I have no files on desktop whatsoever. The only thing that appears is the taskbar which is "kind of" functional(!)....
Is this behaviour familiar to anyone? Before, I rebooted the laptop and could start use it as soon as the desktop appeared, now I have to wait for about a minute before all my stuff appears...
Any help would be highly appreaciated,
cheers

Your icon and thumbnail caches may be corrupted.
Read this entire thread about rebuilding the cache, because it's not as easy as in earlier versions of Windows and not everything posted in the thread is helpful.
