I have purchased Nortons Anti-Virus and have McAfee installed on my desktop Dell 9150.
My trial period is over and I want to un-install McAfee and load Nortons but I keep getting the message '' an error has appeared in the script in this page line 59 character 2. ActiveX component can't create object. Scripting dictionary. Code 0 '' I then get an option to run script on this page and by pressing either yes or no I end up with a blank uninstaller screen from McAfee.
You really need to elaborate as to precisely what generated that message ---- it appears to be an online/internet warning: do you get it when trying to download something? if so, what? if not a download, what were you trying to access online?
or did you get it when trying to run a McAfee UNinstall? or the Norton installer?
The preferred way to Uninstall McAfee:
1) IF you still have the McAfee Security Center icon in your system tray, open it, and one-by-one, DISable each of the McAfee components you find there [anti-virus, anti-spyware, firewall, etc.]. Then:
2) IF you still have McAfee listed in your ADD/REMOVE programs, try to UNinstall it now (that its components are disabled).
Hopefully, steps 1) and 2) will do the job for you. And if so, you can stop here.
But if you couldn't get through these two steps successfully, then proceed to step 3:
3) Is this the ONLY McAfee product you have installed on your system?? IF yes, then:
MajorGeeks lists a McAfee Consumer Product Removal (MCPR) tool :
I personally have never used it, meaning I cannot attest to its effectiveness nor to its safety. But others here have used it successfully.
If you choose to try it, keep in mind it's a COMPLETE removal tool for
ALL McAfee products you have installed.... I don't believe you can "pick and choose", to remove only some, and keep the rest.
