McAfee security center

For some reason the pop up asking to register will not go away. Every time it pops up you get two options, register now or register later. Clicking register now does nothing, the pop up goes away for awile. This is very annoying as it will pop up during gaming sessions ect. To the best of my knowlage i have registered once. Why wont this go away?? I have looked everywere in the program for a registry link or some something to help but to no avail.

Ive made an account at mcafee. And it says i have no regisitered products.
So I uninstalled and reinstaled.Still no option to regisister.Click on update and i get the pop up to register.Click register now, NOTHING. If Mcaffe cant even make registering user friendly. Why should i use their products. I beleave ill just go back to Avast antivirus and add aware those are
Free and atleast you can register them with out pulling out your hair. Sorry mcafee
But if this software didnot come bundled with my new xps 710. I wouldnt of even tried.

Found this on McAfee's website under Dell:

I purchased a new Dell PC and I cannot register my McAfee software

Summary: This document will explain how to register the preinstalled McAfee software on a new Dell computer running Windows Vista.

Affected Products:
  • McAfee SecurityCenter 7.0
Affected Operating Systems:
  • Microsoft Windows Vista
  • Dell PC
Description

The registration wizard does not start if the system is missing a necessary file on some models of Dell PCs when clicking Register Now. The registration alert will continue every four hours unless the workaround is applied. McAfee SecurityCenter will report a protection problem after seven days if the workaround is not applied.

Workaround Download and apply dellfix.bat and then run the product Setup
  1. Download and save:

    http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/dellfix.bat
  2. Navigate to the saved file.
  3. Double-click dellfix.bat.
  4. Restart the computer.
  5. Right-click the M icon in the System Tray and click Product Setup.

Maybe this will Help you....my daughter has the same problem as you. She's going to try it.

Update..

The patch apparantly has stopped the registration pop ups but because her Laptop is a "refurbished" one she must now call McAfee so she can get it registered in her name. You would think DELL would notify McAfee when they sold a refurbished unit since McAfee uses the DELL Service number as the ID.
Oh well

Update

Ok after 3 weeks, 2 1/2 hours with mcaffe online support.
changing everything from internet settings.registering dlls,
registy edits, uninstalling, reinstalling still no go..

Why would dell partner itself with a software company who cant get their
own software to work?

Just for the record Mcafee securitycenter came preinstalled on my dell
xps710,running xp mediacenter 2007.

There is no link or option in the program to register...
1-When I click on the register now option in the pop up nothing happens..
2-When I click on product setup nothing happens
3-When I click update I get the registry pop up (see #1)
Other than registering the software is running.
Of course you must register to update.
Atleast you can use Virtual Technician to atemp to fix.
And keep updating your  virus dat files..!

My advice to anyone else with this problem..!
Just remove Mcafee and get better software..!
I have had better results with free utilties..!
