NOT-A-Virus.Exploit.Byteverify (HIGH)

Hi .. I used EWIDO software to run a virus scan and it found the following. I tried to USE that same software to quarntine/remove the virus but was un-successful. I have attached the most recent scan on HJT ...

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated - I believe it is causing my computer to freeze randomly.

MSconfig.exe detected:
Let's find out if you have any malware disabled with selective start-up.
Go to Start > Run and type " Notepad" without the quotes
Copy/paste the following blue text into a new notepad (not wordpad) document. Make sure that wordwrap is unchecked.
Go to the menu at the top of the Notepad file and Save as:
  • Name the file mslook.bat
  • Save as Type: All files (not as a text document or it won't work)
  • Select the desktop icon on the left to save it on the desktop.

Locate mslook.bat on your Desktop and double-click it. When notepad opens, copy/paste the content in your reply. When you close Notepad the CMD window will close automatically and the text file will be deleted.

STEP 1.
======
MyWay Removal
Open ‘Add/Remove Programs’ in the Control Panel.

  • Select the ‘My Search Bar’ (MySearch variant), ‘MyWay Speed Bar’ (MyWay) or ‘My Web Search Bar’ (MyWeb) entry
  • Click ‘Remove’.
  • For the MyWeb variant, be sure to also remove ‘Fun Web Products Easy Installer’
  • Open My Computer, Drive C, and double-click on the Program Files folder
  • Right-click and delete the folders for:
    FunWebProducts
    MyWebSearch

To clear the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) cache:

  • Click Start > Control Panel.
  • Double-click the Java icon in the control panel.
    -The Java Control Panel appears.
  • Click Settings under Temporary Internet Files.
    -The Temporary Files Settings dialog box appears.
  • Click Delete Files.
    -The Delete Temporary Files dialog box appears.
    -There are three options on this window to clear the cache.
    • Delete Files
    • View Applications
    • View Applets

  • Click OK on Delete Temporary Files window.
    -Note: This deletes all the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the cache.
  • Click OK on Temporary Files Settings window.
  • Close the Java Control Panel

Disable Microsoft Windows Defender:
We need to disable your Microsoft Windows Defender Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.
  • Open Microsoft Windows Defender. Click Start, Programs, Windows Defender
  • Click on Tools, General Settings.
  • Under Real-time protection options, unselect the Turn on real-time protection check box
  • Click Save

After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.

Updating Java
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 9.
  • Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-1_5_0_09-windowsi586-p.exe to install the newest version.


Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

Scan with HijackThis. Place a check against each of the following:

Close all windows or browsers except for Hijackthis. Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them:
C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch\(=folder
Exit Explorer, and reboot as normal afterwards.


Post back the log from mslook.bat and a fresh HijackThis log and we will take another look.
