NetSpry Victim
Hi. Maybe a HiJack expert can give me some guidance with this log. I have removed a couple entries with Netspry, but the thing keeps coming back.
Here is my log:

First you need to remove the peper trojan. Download the uninstaller here -> http://www.memorywatcher.com/uninst.exe
You must be connected to the internet when you run it for the uninstall to work.
Then close all windows and have hijackthis fix the following if they remain:
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = about:blank
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497} - (no file)

O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Find Fast.lnk = D:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\FINDFAST.EXE
O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = D:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA9.EXE
O4 - Global Startup: Office Startup.lnk = D:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA.EXE
Reboot and post another log.

Yellowhammer is the one who reviewed mine. I don't know much about it - other than if you don't know what you're doing you can really mess up your PC. Have some patience... he'll probably check out yours too.

cj,
I too was a recent victim of netspry. After emailing, reading and researching to no avail, I found one simple thing that worked. I restored my computer to a date one day previous to my "trouble". It works perfectly. I have also purchased (recommended on this forum) "spy farret". It seems to be a pretty good program thus far. Although I do still have a few popups, I do not have near as many. Definitely worth the money.
Hope I've been of some help to you! Good luck!

For certain you have never seen anyone in this forum recommend spyferret and the reason is simple...it is a ripoff of Spybot S&D. See here:
http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=compatibility&detail=spyferret
Furthermore, it's much better to post a HiJackThis log by starting a new thread for assistance. While using system restore may seem to solve your problem, it is almost certain that you have more than one instance of spyware if you've contracted the netspry problem. It's highly recommended that you use the HJT method and post your log for a spyware expert to review and make recommendations.

Please post as advised your log in a new message here
http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board?board.id=si_virus
and one of us will advise on what to do. As BBlackie said we cant help two users in one thread it gets to complicated, the original poster may come back and get tied in knots. We have been doing this for some time, and I have had one such misshap when a user followed the instructions given for another, we will not do it because of that.
liwisfl,
Sorry you have been ripped off, by spy farret no one here (Experts from the virus board) would EVER recommend it. The free Original spybot S&D is the best arround, and that with the free version of Ad-aware is all that most need, along with those, I would recommend spywareblaster, spywareguard and ie-spyad, all also free. See the link below to my website for links etc to most of them.

Thanks so much for the info, I will most definitely take care of the spyfarret issue....lesson learned on that one, but most assuredly........I did get it from a link from this forum, as I did not visit any other site and was using ONLY the Dell site when I was trying to figure out what to do about netspry. I truly wish I had time to go through the many postings that I had read to find it for you.
My date specific system restore has been successful though. It's gone and I have had no problems since! I don't know what else to tell ya! I was just offering the info on what was successful for me so far as the restore, I was not trying to endorse or imply that anyone should purchase spyfarret. Lord Knows....I don't want to get involved in any copyright infringements! I rescind any suggestions in obtaining spyfarret.
Thanks again for the info!

The same thing has happened to me and if I have to look at that kid from American Idol again, I'm going to the rubber room. Excuse me for asking such an elementary question, but how do I post my log files like you all have done?
Obviously, I'm the N in computer Novice.
Thank you.
