Please review my Hijackthis! log. My OS is Win XP Pro.

Question

Hi! I've been having some problems after installing messennger plus, which was probably a stupid thing to do in the first place. I got a toolbar in ie and several pop ups. This didn't affect me that much, since I use firefox, but I don't like having un authorized programs on my system. I got rid of mostly everything, except for two crtical lop items, according to adaware. I removed them everytime i started up, but they keep re-installing themselves on startup. I found files in my Application Data that didn't look like they belonged there: 'flaw cast time boob' and 'mix dumb curb'. I deleted both and I haven't had any problems yet, but I'd appreciate it if someone could look over my log file. Thanks in advance. answers to the following 2 questions might be helpful for whoever decides to respond here:

you indicated you installed some toolbar(s) that you don't want... i see evidence of at least 3 toolbars: Google, MSN, and Yahoo. Presumably the one you don't want is MSN... but please clarify, which, if any you want to keep, and which you want to get rid of.

also, you said two programs keep coming back each time after running Ad-Aware... WHICH two programs?

My apologies for not being clear. The toolbar was something like hotbar, but not the same thing. All of the buttons linked to "Open Search Web" at http://66.220.17.154/
There were two critical items that kept showing up in adaware. I remember that one was a registry key. Both were lop. Note that the toolbar hasn't showed up for sometime, and adaware hasn't detected these two threats today, after I deleted the two files in my Application data, as I mentioned in my above post.
Also, something I forgot to add in my previous post, microsoft antispyware would always detect something trying to change my ie search url to seemingly non existant links, which makes me suspicious of this in my log file:

general comment before we start:

it appears from viewing your log that you are running both Grisoft/AVG anti-virus, as well as McAfee anti-virus. Running two anti-virus programs simultaneously is NOT advised... they can conflict with each other... each might report the other as being a virus. decide which one you want to keep, and disable (or uninstall) the other.

i'm focusing on the points you've specifically mentioned... there may be other things still remaining, but let's take care of the main one(s) first:

1) i agree with your suspicion... you should run HJT to fix/remove the entry

This is Hotbar's Weather Forecast tool for your desktop, which is adware. You can try running HJT to fix/remove this entry as well...

then close HiJack this.

(by the way, i see you're also running Weather Watcher, which seems to be an independant program from the Hotbar Weather tool)

Reboot your system.

test things out.... see how it's working....

among other things, re-run HiJack this, to verify that these two entries were really deleted. if they were (in particular, the 2nd one about WeatherOnTray), you should SKIP the next (blue) section about the Symantec Hotbar removal tool:

if for any reason the WeatherOnTray entry wasn't removed (i.e., if it continues to come back), you can try downloading and running the Symantec Fix Hotbar removal tool, from

http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/FxHotbar.exe

Warning: (after downloading this tool, but BEFORE running it) Go **OFFLINE**. Make sure any work you have is saved. close ALL programs that are running. Be advised that this tool can close down both Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer. Run the tool, then reboot your system.

I am only running AVG. I had the Mcaffe trial, and I haven't gotten around to uninstalling it. I had the hotbar weather tool, but I uninstalled it, and got Weather Watcher instead. Thanks for the advice. I'm just wondering, but why didn't I see a Hotbar Folder in my Program files, like it says in the below entry? the likely explanation as to why you have the 04-hotbar/WeatherOnTray hjt log entry, but no corresponding hotbar FOLDER (after you uninstalled the hotbar weather tool) is that, quite often, UNinstallers are 'sloppy' and 'incomplete'.   if it removed the folder (and executable file situated therein), the program is essentially 'null and void'... it can't possibly run again... it can't 'hurt' you.  but apparently, the uninstaller 'forgot' about the 'wake-up entry' ('calling card')... which will still attempt to load/access the program... but of course, 'fail' to do so.  now, via HJT, you've removed the 'wake-up call' as well, tidying things up :-)     so, does your system seem to be running alright now?   or would you like me to ask someone else to double check your revised log?   (since i only focused on your specific complaints... someone else might find something else 'objectionable')
