Pop up message stating computer infected

I keep getting a pop up message on the bottom of my screen that states my computer is infected! I ran the Norton Virus System and it shows no virus's or risks detected. However it is very annoying and it keeps popping up every 30 seconds or so and I have a red circle with an x through it located at the bottom of my tool bar next to the clock...........Any one help me?

This is possibly spyware (to get you to click on it and end up buying something to "remove" the spyware) and not a virus.  Are you running any spyware software,  (I do not mean Norton anti-virus) such as the free Spybot or ad-aware?

I am only runnng Norton Security, however, when this pops up it states to click on it to protect computer from spyware. It says windows will now download and install the most up to date antispyware for you. But it does not do anything.......................It just keeps popping up at the bottom right hand of my screen. About every 30 seconds.

On your other post you state you're running Norton Antivirus, here you state you're running Norton Security. Norton Internet Security???  Please only post once to avoid confusion.  In any event, you need to run a spyware program to determine what this pest is.

I'm sorry I have Norton Internet Security & Norton Antivirus (Guess I don't know which one is which) but anyways I ran to check for virus's and/or risks and it came up none. Where do I find a spyware to run? Do I have to buy it?
