Problem running MacAfee Security Center

Question

After installing McAfee Security Center and clicking on the M in the system tray a white rectangle appears for 1 or 2 seconds and then disappears. The program is running in the background because I receive alerts. I have chatted with McAfee about the program problems and followed many avenues to fix it but nothing works. Comodo usually runs better with better protection and is a less of a resource hog than zonealarm.

Many people have had this problem.  You can try COMPLETELY removing McAfee, using the removal tool on the support sorum and then reinstall.  Look here for the tool:  http://ts.mcafeehelp.com/faq3.asp?docid=408302 .  You can also first try running the McAfee virtual technician if you have not already done so.  http://mvt.mcafee.com/mvt/index.asp .  If you read the McAfee forums, you will find that McAfee frequently causes trouble and runs poorly.  I solved my complaints of running slowly, not opening for up to 10 minutes, and error messages by using a different AV/Firewall.  You can choose PC-cillin, Symantec, Zone Alarm and others that work better.  Consumer Reports gives the home version of McAfee a poor review.

Also consider AVG.  I think it's the best on the market.  Go go www.grisoft.com.  I believe there is a free version available.   It works great and doesn't hog your resources.

ZoneAlarm gets good reviews but I don't like it.
