Recuva --- File UNerase Utility
From Piriform, the makers of CCleaner:
Recuva (pronounced "Recover") is a file UNerase utility... it has the potential to recover files that have been "erased" from your system (within reasonable limitations... e.g., if you realize an accidental erasure immediately, and don't do any other writing to the disk, the chances are then optimal for Recuva to work successfully).
My wife recently used it to recover some home video she had filmed with her digital camcorder. She thought she had copied the files over to her hard drive, and so she "erased" the files from the camera's (PC-compatible) memory card. But upon looking for the files on the hard drive, they were no where to be found :emotion-9: She was very upset, figuring the video was lost. But we tried downloading Recuva, and --- at least in this case --- it worked liked a charm! The "lost" home video was completely reinstated :emotion-1:
As Joe would say, "your mileage may vary". But it's certainly a neat utility to keep around... just in case.
A new build (1.28) has just been released http://www.recuva.com/download/builds
go for the SLIM build.
