RegCreateKey Ex failed" Error Message

I've been having problems with Windows Media Player (the most recent
edition) -- many times it doesn't play files, or plays sound and no
video.  It's very unpredictable.  So I tried to installed RealPlayer
and use that to view the video file instead.  It would not install all
the way -- no shortcuts would install on my desktop or start menu, and
only the installation button could be found in my program folder.  I
found a site that gave some codecs that were supposed to work.  When I
try to install the codecs (K-Lite Codec Pack), however, I get the
following message:

RegCreateKey Ex failed; Code 5, Access denied.  It then rolls back the changes it had made thus far.

This
doesn't really make any sense to me since I'm working in an
administrator account. As I've researched this error message further,
I've read that there is probably spyware on my computer that's blocking
the program components from being installed where they're supposed to
be.

However -- I've run two spyware scans already --
SpywareRemover and AdAware, as well as Avira AntiVir Personal edition. 
I also installed RegSeeker today and did two runs with it.  It found and deleted whatever it needed to.  Then someone on this board suggested that I may have a worm, and told me to run BitDefender in safe mode from the internet -- which, I discovered, you can't access (the internet) while in safe mode.  I ran the program in normal mode (it took 3 1/2 hours) but it still didn't find anything.

I still get this message when trying to install the codecs.  I don't know what to
do next.  I have had little issues here and there with my computer the
last few months, and they many times tend to lead back to directions to
make changes in the registry.  For instance, I can't click on an email
link on the internet and have it open up an email window in outlook. 
It says that outlook wasn't installed properly (it's already been
backed up, uninstalled, then reinstalled -- no avail).  I've scoured
the net for solutions on that too, but none of them have worked.

I
have a feeling there are some issues with the registry, but other than
using a registry scanner, I have no idea what I'm looking at, and
therefore have no idea what's right or wrong.  Help!
