R D,

Did you do a complete install of SAS (downloading the full updated version --- and if so, my understanding is that, as part of the process, it uninstalled the older version)?

I tried doing an internal update [via Right-Clicking on the "bug" icon, and checking for updates], but at present, it's not finding anything... I assume they will phase things in, so as not to overload their servers...

Thanks for the info Red Dawn!  ky331, I just received the update after doing a right 'Bug click".  It did the internal update - no problem.

AVAST! version 4.8.12871290

November 18 "19"(*), 2008

  • - improvements in the malware submission system
  • - minor improvements in some unpackers
  • - improvements in the rootkit scanner
  • - Network Shield: solved a problem occurring on systems with missing TCP stack

.

.

for those avast users who are not set to automatically download PROGRAM updates:

RIGHT-click on the Avast icon in your system tray, select UPDATING, and then PROGRAM UPDATE

.

EDIT:   A few hours after releasing build 1287, avast followed it with build 1290 (same description) ---

1290 updates the file ashTask.dll, which "contained a stupid bug... That's why 1290 was released asap".

(*)  It may already be the "19th" in some parts of the world, but where I am, it's still the 18th ;-)

After updating SAS, be sure to re-boot.

While trouble-shooting another problem, I noticed in event-viewer the following:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7000
Date:  18/11/2008
Time:  7:30:13 PM
User:  N/A
Computer: *****
Description:
The SASDIFSV service failed to start due to the following error:
Cannot create a file when that file already exists.

I also noted that SASDIFSV was disabled in my device manager. SASDIFSV is a driver for SAS. After a re-boot, the entry disappeared.

Please note the EDIT to the avast post above, as avast quickly "updated their update"
