Windows Update problem code 80072efe, redirected google results, some internet pages not displaying

Hi,

I am having a problem sucessfully updating windows update. Also some of my google results are getting redirected to different links, and some pages were showing up as being unable to load due to no internet.

I have run a HiJack This scan, log included below. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate edition and IE 8. Please let me know if you need any further information.

I would be grateful for any help you could offer. Thanks! :)

Hi,

please give this script a try.

Please Open notepad and copy/paste the text between the dotted lines below into it:

Save this as search.bat
Choose to "Save type as - All Files"
Save it on your desktop.

It should look like this:bat_icon.gif
Double click on search.bat & allow it to run.

Once the search has finished there will be a notepad file saved to your desktop, please copy/paste the contents of the notepad file be to me. (note: it may take a few seconds for the notepad file to appear so please be patient)

Hi lasareina,

It's nothing too serious, we may just need to replace a file and if you have the Windows disk, it may make life easier for us both.

Your Java is out of date,  Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.

  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 21 and save it to your desktop.
  • Scroll down to where it says JDK 6 Update 21 (JDK or JRE)
  • Click the Download JRE button to the right
  • Select the Windows platform from the dropdown menu.
  • Read the License Agreement and then check the box that says: "I agree to the Java SE Runtime Environment 6u21 with JavaFX 1 License Agreement". Click on Continue. The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save the file to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel, double-click on Add or Remove Programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check (highlight) any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE or Java(TM) 6) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u21-windows-i586.exe to install the newest version.
  • After the install is complete, go into the Control Panel (using Classic View) and double-click the Java Icon. (looks like a coffee cup)
    • On the General tab, under Temporary Internet Files, click the Settings button.
    • Next, click on the Delete Files button
    • There are two options in the window to clear the cache - Leave BOTH Checked
      • Applications and Applets
        Trace and Log Files
    • Click OK on Delete Temporary Files Window
      Note: This deletes ALL the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the CACHE.
    • Click OK to leave the Temporary Files Window
    • Click OK to leave the Java Control Panel.

 

Please disable all active protection before running the online scan

Then please Run an online virus scan called Kaspersky from HERE.

  • 1. At the main page. Press on " Accept". After reading the contents.
    2. At the next window Select Update. Allow the Database to update.
    Note: If prompted to run or update your Java, then follow the prompts to do so. Kaspersky requires Java to run.
    3. Once the Database has finished, under the Scan icon Select My Computer to start the scan. The scan may take a few minutes to complete.
    4. Select Scan Report.
    5. If any threats were found they will appear in the report
    6. Select "Save error report as"
    Then in the file name just type in kaspersky
    Under "save as type" select text .txt
    Save it to your Desktop.

     

    Copy and post the results of the Kaspersky Online scan. If no threats were found then report that as well.

    Please post me a fresh set of DDS log's along with the Kaspersky log.
