My friend apparently has XoftSpy installed on her computer. Is it worth using and what is it?

S.C   Without getting into the 'pros' of AVG anti-virus, and the 'cons' of XoftSpy...   it needs to be stressed here that these are two totally different applications... meaning any 'comparison' between them would be like comparing apples and oranges:   AVG anti-virus is an anti- VIRUS program. XoftSpy is [debatably] an anti- SPYWARE [or more generally, an anti- MALWARE] program.   Every person should be running exactly one RESIDENT anti- VIRUS program; together with ONE RESIDENT anti- MALWARE program --- which should be complemented with at least one more ON-DEMAND anti- MALWARE scanner.   Resident:   means continually running, in real-time --- providing preventive protection. On-Demand:  means a scanner you can choose to run whenever you choose to... to remove problems, after they've already found their way in to your system.
