BIOS error "Thunderbolt PCIe Device Enumeration mode has switched to BIOS assist mode"

20210309_101028.mp4 00_00_15_00001.png

Since I updated my BIOS and Thunderbolt firmware last week, I get this popup for a second on EVERY reboot, after the popup, the system reboots itself and goes to Windows.

------

.

This support article says: "The message will only appear one time and there is no functional impact to system performance."

  • That is not true.
  • The popup flashes at EVERY reboot.
  • Boot time seems slower.
  • USB flash drives connected to the Thunderbolt port often can not be safely removed (Ejected) in Windows as they appear to be in use, while they are not.

------

  • Device: Dell G5 15 5587
  • OS: Windows 10 Pro 1909

Popup error started after installing these updates on the same day (02 March 2021)

  • BIOS 1.15.0 (15 Jan 2021)
  • Intel Thunderbolt Firmware Update 4.46.152.001, A02 (21 Jan 2021)
  • Intel Management Engine Interface Driver 2036.15.0.1835, A07 (13 Jan 2021)
  • Intel HD Graphics Driver 27.20.100.8935, A07 (29 Jan 2021)

------

Please advice how to go back to previous Thunderbolt firmware.

Update:

I went to Thunderbolt Auto Switch in BIOS and enabled "Auto Switch" (was off by default) and don't get the flashing popup and double restart anymore.
