BIOS update without hardware compatibility check?
Before updating the BIOS the update software performs a hardware compatibility check. This makes sense in most cases but not in mine. I installed a modded BIOS for a Vostro 3550 (15 inch display) on a Vostro 3750 (17 inch display). While the machine is still bootable that caused several problems, so I would like to reinstall the original BIOS. But if I run the exe I get a message "platform not supported". I think the installer checks the installed BIOS, detects the 3550 BIOS and quits.
The modded BIOS was installed under DOS after booting from a USB stick. But that method works just with bin or rom-files, not with an exe.
Please take into account that I'm neither a windows wizard nor a native english speaker.
Thanks.

I am not sure if this suggestion will work but it was posted in the forum.
"run the .exe compatible with your bios and go to %temp% folder, there you will find the .bin BIOS file"

I'm not sure whether it worked. A file named
PhLdrX64.sys
was generated and written to
C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Local\Temp
Filesize is just 19,1 KB.

I think I found a solution.
https://superuser.com/questions/1395076/how-i-can-extract-binary-file-from-exe-file
"A Dell .exe BIOS file can be extracted by running install-file.exe /writeromfile. Other known parameters are writehdrfile and writehexfile. Another method is to use PFSExtractor."

It's not that simple. The problem has been discussed and probably solved before.

I guess for a vostro 3750 the .hdr file should have the name winery75.hdr.
