Low resolution on external monitor.

Hello.

I have been experiencing low resolution by connecting my monitor (S2721DGF) to the laptop (Vostro 3591).
Monitor supports 2560x1440@60hz resolution, yet laptop only able to output 2048x1152.

To make sure it's not HDMI cable or monitor issue, I connected monitor to my gaming PC (GTX970) and it did output 2560x1440@60hz without issues.

I tried installing different drivers and setting custom resolution, and it all failed.
Spec wise, CPU (i5-1035G1) on this laptop is capable of outputting up to 4096 x 2304@60Hz via HDMI.

So, is there hardware or BIOS limitations that prevents higher resolution output?
Is there anything I can do to achieve desired 2560x1440 resolution with this laptop?

Would appreciate any help, Thank you very much.

@sverek  Dell bungled the design or manufacturing of some laptops and delivered them with HDMI outputs that only support 1080p, even though the laptops launched in 2019. That includes your system. See this KB article. I can’t check right now, but if your system has a USB-C port that supports video, get a USB-C to HDMI cable, or better yet a USB-C to DP cable if your display has a DP input.

@jphughan

Thank you very much for your reply!

Yeah, that what I was afraid of. Unfortunately, Vostro 3591 doesn't come with USB-C port, only USB 3.1 Gen1.

I can only hope Dell comes with some kind of magic and offers custom BIOS or drivers that may resolve this issue. Will wait for what Dell Support has to say.

Again, thank you for your input.
