Welcome to the Dell Community  @Rip41

Yes the battery does come out.

Dell Vostro 5481 Service Manual:

thanks! Is it recommended to keep it in? will it over-charge/ruin the battery over time?

I cannot overstate how misleading Dell is with the D6000 docking station + Vostro in that it cannot charge via USB... Any suggestions?

@Rip41

Since you have a "SMART" battery it should not over charge.

If you go into your BIOS setup you have options in "Power management"

There you can adjust the options to your needs.
