Replacement hinges. Normally the Parts People have these but they are not in stock as of right now.

I wonder if the suggested hinge replacement has the same excessive tension issue. Here is another solution: https://www.amazon.com/AES-Industries-Mini-Panel-Clamp/dp/B00AZA5C7Q Simon

I just said "screw it" (literally) and now drill the palmrest and through-bolt the hinge screws. With the right screw heads and countersunk a bit, it actually doesn't look bad and there's no interference with the screen when closed.
