AWCC repeatedly crashing, not loading
I have an AW3821DW monitor that I want to manage with Alienware Command Center. When I first got the monitor, the program ran fine. But now it refuses to run. If I launch the program, I get a white screen with the Alienware logo for 30s or so, and then the application crashes. And in my Windows Event Viewer, under the application logs, I get the following error every 30s or so.
The program AWCC.exe version 5.4.9.0 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Security and Maintenance control panel.
Process ID: 16f8
Start Time: 01d7ebbb50b2b9bd
Termination Time: 4294967295
Application Path: C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\DellInc.AlienwareCommandCenter_5.4.9.0_x64__htrsf667h5kn2\AWCC.exe
Report Id: 65038124-488a-417e-a8f0-de48655a9d5f
Faulting package full name: DellInc.AlienwareCommandCenter_5.4.9.0_x64__htrsf667h5kn2
Faulting package-relative application ID: App
Hang type: Cross-process
I've tried reinstalling the application many times, and no matter what I do, I get the above error.
The following is my system setup:
AMD Ryzen 5900X, Asus TUF Gaming x570 Pro (wifi)
2x16GB Crucial Balistix 3600MHz CL16
EVGA 3080 Ti FTW3
Windows 10 x64, 21H1, build 19043.1348
Update=I'm not sure what happened, but things appear to be working for me now after I tried installing a couple times with the versions linked.
I first tried with AWCC 5.4.9.0 and the FX 2.2.1.0, and that did not work. I uninstalled both with Revo, and restarted the computer. Next, I tried the AWCC 5.3.2.0 and FX 2.2.1.0 linked, and that didn't work. Again, I uninstalled both with Revo and restarted.
I then did the following.
1) Installed AWCC 5.3.2.0. Let the system sit for a couple minutes after the install completed, and then ran AWCC. AWCC opened after a bit of time, but was not able to detect the display to control the lighting, as expected. I then restarted the computer.
2) After restarting and logging in, I left the computer for a few minutes. I then ran the AWFXDisplay Smart Installer 2.2.1.0. Here's where things got a little strange.
3) After the installer completed, I got a Microsoft Store notification that AWCC had been updated as well as FXDisplay was installed. I checked the MS Store app, and now see 3 alienware items listed: Alienware FXDisplay, Alienware Command Center, and Alienware Control Center. The Alienware Command Center store entry lists the version as v5.4.9.0. Revo is also showing the installed version now as 5.4.9.0, even though I used the 5.3.2.0 installer. Revo and Windows App manager list the installed version of the FX Display Smart installer as 2.2.1.0, though the MS Store entry in my library has the listed version as 1.4.1.0
At this point, things do seem to be working, and I can once again control the lighting on my display. However, I am worried about the possibility of automatic updates breaking things again.

So there was a lot of back and forth with Dell support in private messages. They had me use Revo Uninstaller to uninstall all the software components, and try re-installing, applying most recent windows updates, etc. There was even one point when they tried to tell me that AWCC is only supported on Dell systems, and that I was SOL.
Eventually, they sent me links to download previous versions of AWCC as well as the AlienFX Display Smart Install driver. Even with those it didn't work right away. Took a few attempts. Not sure exactly what cause things to work, but there was one attempt where I started getting Microsoft Store notifications about Alienware related software/updates being available. It was the attempt after getting those notifications that things worked. Only things that I can suggest:
1) Use Revo to completely uninstall AWCC and the AlienFX driver.
2) Restart
3) Install AWCC only, and after the install completes, wait 15 minutes, and then restart
4) Use the Windows/Microsoft Store and check for software updates. Install related updates.
5) Restart
6) Install AlienFX Display Smart Installer driver.
7) Again, check for Microsoft Store for alienware related software/updates, and install them.
