Alienware 17 R4 cannot boot even to safe mode
After deleting several files from the Download Folder, I was in the process of deleting Epson printer programs via “Programs and Features” when my Alienware 17 R4 suddenly restarted on its own (right as I deleted an Epson FAX program). Upon restart, the mouse controls were missing. I used the button to shut down and then restart, and then the mouse control was back but after going into windows, the mouse kept freezing up and the “spinning” blue circle would take the place of the mouse cursor. Control/Alt/Delete did not take me out of the freeze at all.
After restarting I tried going into the Window Recovery Environment, and it while it failed to fix the Startup in Startup Repair, it did perform a recover from an earlier save point (although it was still showing a new app tile I had just installed about an hour before this whole issue). It still had the same issue with the frozen mouse. Then even trying to restart multiple times, it stayed on the Alienware logo screen with a spinning dot icon until I again went into WRE. Several Hard Drive checks passed. It also passed a full systems check.
Upon return to the WRE: 1) it freezes if you try to choose “System Restore” in Advanced Options, 2) the screen dims and then freezes when “Continue” in Options, “Restart” is clicked in Startup Settings, and 3) The screen freezes on the Alienware logo screen when in Startup settings for “Safe Mode with Networking”.
I think I’m at the point that I need to just do a full uninstall/reinstall of Windows, but I wanted to check here, first, before doing so.
It had first run into this issue earlier in the day with the frozen mouse, but doing a recovery to a point early in the morning did work to clear it the first time.
