Bitlocker Recovery Key - Problem Solved

I was locked out of my laptop because it's asking for a Bitlocker recovery key. I never set this up. After hours with Microsoft they blamed the manufacturer which is Dell. After a couple of hours trying to deal with Dell they say they don't have such a recovery key and told me that I need to reset to factory settings (bummer because I will lose all my data). This key was not under my Microsoft account. So frustrating! So Problem solved. My recovery key was in fact in my Microsoft account. The problem was that I did not use the Microsoft account for a long time. Hence my OneDrive was frozen. I requested to unfroze it (even thought I had no idea the recovery key had anything to do with it) and it said it would take up to 24 hours. Regardless I had already taken my laptop to an IT guy which told me without the key there was nothing he could do  but to reset the Windows to factory settings. Last night around 11 PM I got an email from Microsoft saying my OneDrive was ready to use. I clicked on it and there was the 48 digits recovery key. I was praying that the IT guy didn't had the time to work on my computer and reset to factory settings. And this morning he said he did not. So I run over there (literally) and picked up my laptop. Inserted the key and it is working beautifully. What I learned form this: Even if you think you don't have a Microsoft account, if you have Windows you do or at least your recovery key is stored there. Try to sign in with your main email and put that you forgot your password. Once you are in the Microsoft account, click on OneDrive and if frozen request to unfrozen and within 24 hours your key will be there.
