Inspiron 3174 Windows 10 1511 upgrade black screen at boot

My Inspiron 3174 has been running fine on Windows 10 (10240), but after installing the version 1511 upgrade, the systems stuck on a black screen - if I touch/tap the screen, then the system continues to boot and gets to the logon screen.

I've done many clean install tests and 10240 works fine but version 1511 gets the black screen.

If I disable the HID Sensor Collection V2 device, then it boots fine, but the auto-rotation doesn't work.

There are other 3174 owners have this problem after the 1511 upgrade.  It's obviously that 1511 introduces some bugs, but since we can't stop Microsoft from pushing these updates out, eventually all 3174 users are going to have this problem.  I'm wondering if Dell is aware of this.

You should report this to Microsoft. Dell doesn't have anything to do with Windows Update. Other computer users--not just Dell users-- have reported a problem with 1511 update on the MS Forum for windows 10. You might find a solution there. Also make sure your model is on the Dell approved list for win 10.

I did but nothing helpful.  With the Windows 10 auto update model, this update will get pushed out to all 3147 users.  I am hoping that Dell would spend a little time to investigate this.

I am having the exact same problem and after hours of troubleshooting, I have concluded this issue is something related to the Synaptics driver. If you remove "Dell Touchpad" from Programs and Features, the issue no longer seems to surface. I'm hoping Dell will update their touchpad driver to address this issue.

Good hint.  The touchpad driver, Dell's or Microsoft's (a little bit newer than Dell), worked fine with 10240 and "caused" this problem after 1511 is installed, I would say the problem is caused by the 1511 upgrade.

Since the Dell touchpad gets installed by Windows Update automatically, and the 1511 upgrade is pushed out and installed automatically, all the 3147 Windows 10 will have this problem.

I have had this laptop (11-3147) for a year with no problems until this update - exactly as noted above.  It is definitely related to the touchpad driver - Dell - hope you are listening and fix this driver.  This is the problem with windows 10 and the rapid pace of updates - more and more OEM's will have problems keeping up!

Dell's new Touchpad driver fixed it.
