Realtek Card Reader Icon Tool Claims "shell error no 193"

I am now using Windows 10 Pro (1803) on a DELL XPS Desktop for my statistical computing, and I have the following problem: Over the past year, I have been getting a popup from the Realtek Card Reader Icon Tool saying that I have "shell error no 193". When I click ok on the popup, I typically get a repeat of the same popup with the same message as many as six times. I think that the problem is escalating, but I have no idea about how I should resolve the problem which seems to occur at any time and during any application. I should note that the popups emerge from an icon that is three cubes in the shape of a pyramid with two cubes lettered with F and C as the base and one cube lettered with something resembling an H as the apex. I have seen some online advice that recommends uninstalling the Realtek USB 2.0 Card Reader program (My current version is 6.2.8400.30137), but I am reluctant to pursue this option because I worry that I shall lose the functionality for my USB ports on which I depend for handling various external storage devices. Meanwhile, I have not found any update to my current version which is dated 9/27/2013 when I probably had Windows 7 or 8 on my then new DELL. I welcome your suggestions. Thank you. Statman42

Could you please post the model number of your computer? And that error code can be caused by missing files or corrupt Windows files.

My apologies for this tardy reply. The model of my DELL is XPS 8700.

From the Dell XPS 8700 Downloads page:

http://downloads.dell.com/published/pages/xps-8700.html

Obtain Realtek Card Reader Driver version 10.0.10125.31214 A00 for that model, which is Windows 10 compatible (though it's labeled as "Dell Platform Tags Utility" but it is really a Realtek USB Card Reader driver).

https://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/drivers/DriversDetails?productCode=xps-8700&driverId=NMR90

OR this 10.0.17134.31242 A03 Realtek card reader driver, which fully supports Windows 10 v1803 & greater:

https://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=HCN7P

Uninstall that 6.2.8400 version (which is meant for Win8/8.1 only), reboot and install any 10.0 driver version for Win10, like the one I mentioned.

Thank you! Your advice worked perfectly! The new driver seems to work perfectly and the extremely annoying popups have definitely disappeared!
