What you will need

  • Service Tag of the Dell PC on which you want to install Microsoft Windows or Linux
  • Download and install Dell OS Recovery Tool (runs in Microsoft Windows only)
  • Blank USB flash drive 16GB or 32GB
  • Microsoft .Net Framework 4.5.2 or higher
  • Administrator user rights and at least 16GB of available storage space to download the Dell ISO recovery image.  (All data on the drive will be erased)

Download Microsoft's Media Creator on another PC.

Create bootable USB.

Install Windows 10 from that USB.

Lots of tutorial on this.

Windows 10 product key is embedded on motherboard.

Since the recovery media MUST BE Usb 2.0 and there are other issues I now recommend specific DVD and USB2 optical drive for any Windows 10 reinstalls.

This works offline for most all dell models and does not require access to the internet to install or download anything.

The solution below works on all Dell models that work with at least windows 7.  So my GX620 from 2006 works as well as my brand new G7 7588 laptop.

You turn secure boot off and F12 boot from the DVD and install windows.
