Silent upgrade from Dell Command | Update 3.1.2 to 3.1.3
Hello Everyone,
I'm hoping someone else can confirm they have witnessed this behavior in their environment and then possibly an explanation from Dell as to why it is happening:
When my computers have ANY previous version of Dell Command | Update installed the silent install for the latest version refuses to upgrade them. Instead, when I try to manually run the MSI to install 3.1.3 (I currently have 3.1.2 installed), I receive this message:
I extracted the installation files and tried "DCU_Setup_3_1_3.exe /S /v/qn" which produced the same results: Failure to update Command | Update to 3.1.3.
Manually extracting the DellCommandUpdate.msi file and running that as "msiexec.exe /i "DellCommandUpdate.msi" /qn /norestart" produces the same failure.
If I manually run the download package for Dell Command | Update 3.1.3 I do receive a notification stating it recognizes I have 3.1.2 installed and wants to know if I was to upgrade, but this does not provide a silent way for me to upgrade user computers.
What I'm left with is adding the 3.1.2 msi to my install package, uninstalling 3.1.2 using msiexec.exe /X, and then installing 3.1.3 from the msi afterwards. This works, but is not really ideal.
I guess my question is: Is there a way to do an in-place upgrade for Dell Command | Upgrade (non UWP version) silently without having to use the previous version's msi file to remove the previous version?
Thanks!
Matt
