[Solved] Latitude E5540 - Fingerprint / Biometric not working Windows 10
Hi,
I recently installed Windows 10 Pro 64Bit on this Dell Latitude E5540 laptop but can't get the fingerprint working...
I also installed the Dell data protection security tool for windows 10 (version: 1.6.1.1055,A14) from Dell E5540 Support and Drivers page.
Windows had already recognized the the fingerprint reader as Synaptics FP Sensors (WBF) (PID=003f) under Biometrics. But whenever I run the Dell Data Protection Console and try to register my fingerprint it always says:
"The fingerprint reader is not connected. Connect the reader."
The device is enabled in device manager and has no errors. It used to work fine when I had windows 7. Am I missing some drivers or software for Windows 10? I need the FP reader working ASAP.
Can anyone please help me out?
This has been resolved. See AFURSTER Posts below.

Still waiting to hear back... I need to get the fingerprint reader working... :(
Is anyone else having issues with the fingerprint reader on their laptop?

Hy I also have the exactly same issue (and hardware and software).
If someone found a solution; that would be great!

I found the solution:
One of my colleague's have the same notebook with the same Windows 10 (Enterprise) installation and his fingerprint reader works fine. After comparing drivers; it seems some files are missing on my system (strange enough).
I exported his Driver files into my System32 folder and Windows Hello with Fingerprint is now working fine!!
The zip file can be downloaded here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/kyixvia5ikvi9rx/LatitudeE5540-Win10-Fingerprint-Drivers.zip?dl=0
I was unable to add them to this Post, I'm sorry for that.

Thank you so much for the update. I sent you the email.
I'll update here if the drivers work and upload your drivers to a more permanent link so people can pick it up directly.
Appreciate all the effort.

Thank you sir!
I downloaded the files and simply copied them in the directories as they were zipped. I did not replace any file and found out I had all 3 files missing from the "WinBioPlugIns" folder.
Once those files were copied over, I restarted and my system now recognizes the fingerprint reader! :)
This has been really helpful! Thank you again!

The broadcomm USH and Fingerprint Reader are CHIPSET aka Control Point Driver package. Malware seeded links outside of Dell are not the solution.

Is this an reply on my package/solution? I tried many, many driver installations and packages before and none of them worked.
The zip I provided above is a download from my own personal Dropbox and the ZIP contains missing files from the Windows / System32 directory and does not contain any Malware... the files are extracted by my colleague from his notebook and can be fully trusted...
I don't understand how your post contribute to the solution...

@speedstep
Please go through the Dell Latitude E5540 drivers for Windows 10 on the "official" dell driver support page and tell me which "Chipset" drivers are you talking about?
http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-support/product/latitude-e5540-laptop/drivers
The "malware" seeded link that you are talking about is the actual solution to this problem [which btw has NO Malware and only the correct drviers].
Clearly you don't know what's going on here and are no help to this topic. I'm marking your message as Spam. Please only try to contribute if you can help and do not falsely mark correct answers with comments such as "malware".
My problem was resolved by afurster - for anyone looking for a solution, they should follow his advice.

Hi, please let me know exactly where to place each file and if I need to replace the existing one, I just tried moving the files but it didn't work (I didn't replace them)
Thanks.

I did not have to replace any files in my system. It just happened to turn out that some files just never existed in one of the folders; so I just copied them there and left the other files as is.
The zip file that is uploaded by afurster has the folders in them. Just place each file in the exact folders as created inside the zip and you should be good.
Just remember, this solution has been tested on the Dell Latitude E5540 Laptops with Windows 10 / Pro. I can not say anything about other laptops.

Thanks Afurster!
Like you, I spent countless hours researching this problem. You are the first person to have found the solution, even though it seams many people on this board are busy creating road blocks.
It worked both on my Dell Vostro 3460 and Vostro 3560.
Thanks again!
