Go to the dell driver page for your system, select win 8.1 from O.S. and download Sound drivers..Uninstall the one from device manager and install the one you downloaded..This fixed my problem, recon control panel is working now and sound is back to normal..
It's not that hard. This is for those on Win 10 that need the Win 8.1 driver to make sound work. Step by step instructions.
1. Go to support.dell.com.
2. Put your service tag in the middle box. It will go to product support for your machine.
3. On the left side, click the big button that says drivers & downloads. On the right side it will say something like optimize your system with drivers and updates. There are two tabs under that text.
4. Click the one that says find it myself. It says view all available updates for Windows 10, 64 bit. Right next to that it says change OS. Pick Windows 8.1 from the dropdown list.
5. This changes the drivers to those from 8.1. Go down to audio, click the blue arrow. You will now see text that says something like Creative Malcolm chip+Recon3Di AP Driver. Below that is a download file link.
6. Click the link, it will download the file to your download directory.
7. Go there and run the install program.
8. Pick repair from the options and it will fix the sound problem.
Can you please confirm the model name and revision for your Alienware system? From what I understand, if you uninstall the Recon driver the headphones work properly, is that correct? Also, can you confirm which Windows operating system you were using before doing the update to Windows 10?
I had the exact same issue with my Alienware 15. I had no sound with headphones only internal speakers. I checked for drivers, but I found nothing. I just reverted back to 8.1 until the drivers become available.
i dont install recon drivers manualy, win 10 auto installs them after i remove the driver from device manager, i could not find recon driver for my alienware 17 r2 to manually DL and install..I upgraded from Win 8.1
it says high definition device in the device manager, but inside it says recon...And sound quality is bad
I also had the same issue with my Alienware 15, The headphones are not working and only internal speakers. Checked for drivers but it says it's up to date. And aslo the sound blaster recon 3Di control panel says "some components are not found blablabla"
I had the same issue with my Alienware 15. The headphones are not working when plugged in only the internal speaker works. The drivers are up to date but problems remained.
Aslo when opening the SoundBlaster recon 3Di control panel. It says "some components not found PLZ reinstall blablablabla"
I reinstalled the 8.1 drivers ( using setup.exe rather than doing it through the device manager) as stated in this thread and now my software is working. and i have both the internal speakers working AND when I plug in my headphones they work too.
Please note that after the install I could only get sound from my headphones and had no sound from the unit's inbuilt speakers.
I suspect this had to do with the recon3di headphone/mic jack selector software as I recently (under win 8.1) had to faff around with the software to get my headphones to work at the same time as the on board microphone in skype.
Hi, thanks in advance for your help. But I only understood a small part of what you are saying to do. Could you please give very...very simple step by step. I have no sound from anywhere. My music players (WMP, musicbee and Amazon) will not work at all. Thanks again, Pamela
type device manager in left bottom site of the screen where search is located
press the found device manager, and under the sound, video and game controllers remove whatever the driver there
go to dell support driver page, after you choose your hardware, it will show no driver for sound because it sees win 10 right away, you have to change Operating system to Win 8.1 to see and D/L sound drivers..
Well download and install and restart...hope this helps
Hi thanks so much for your time. I am not really sure what you are saying. I changed my OS last night back to 8,1. I now have my sound back. I understand device manager and the sound, video, game controllers. I see AMD high def audio device, bluetooth hands free audio, realtek def audio. That is all I see. I see you say you have to change to wind 10 to see and D?L drivers but I really don't know what you mean by that. I am of the generation who is self taught. We had albums....get it? And way I'm back with 8.1 ugh...can I do what you are say from this point? Thanks again for your time, Pamela
Thanks so much. It may seem weird I need such simple instructions but then you might need me to explain glissade assemble. Lol it's a ballet term. I usually use this on Drs. who don't like to speak patienteeze. Thanks so much for all your help. I'm going to redo my windows 10 (which I reversed back to 8.1 when my music didn't work). Anyway I can't thank you enough. Pamela

Make sure you delete ALL audio drivers in Devices Manager before installing the new Audio new driver.
