Windows 10 Drivers

Hello, I was told I can't download Windows 10 yet because Dell hasn't came out with the necessary drivers yet to be able to download it. I'm curious when will the Windows 10 drivers be available. I would like to have Windows 10 on my Windows 7 laptop as soon as possible. Please let me know what date it will be available to download. Thanks!

Hi,

Thank you for writing to the Dell Community Forum.

Please let us know the model of the Dell computer. You can also try installing the Windows 8.1 driver as it works fine with Windows 10.

Request you to periodically check our support site for more updates on the Windows 10 drivers.

Is there any Latitude E6410 touch pad driver available or any one which will work fine with Win 10 and all touchpad functions?

Thanks

Dell says it won't even support Windows 8, saying:

N5040

Inspiron N5040 systems have been tested for support of Windows 8 upgrade. The Inspiron N5040 does support upgrade to Windows 8, with the following open issues directly after upgrade:

No product-specific problems identified directly after upgrade.

You can download the Windows 8 Assistant to see if your CPU supports PAE, NX and SSE2.  Which would indicate why you can not upgrade to Windows 8 and 10.

I don't know how to download the windows 8.1 drivers on my computer. How do you do it?

Hi,

Unfortunately, Dell has not confirmed Latitude E6410 to be upgraded to Windows 10. However, you can try the Windows 8.1 driver and check if it works fine.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

Unfortunately, Dell has not confirmed Inspiron N5040 can upgrade to Windows 10. Some drivers, firmware, applications, and connected devices may not work as you would expect.

Unless the system Shipped with 8.1 its not likely that 8.1 drivers exist.

Vista / 7 / 8.0 / 8.1 in 32 bit or 64 bit versions are the drivers.

There are few to NONE windows 10 drivers for most dells at this point.

So I can't upgrade to Windows 10 ever?

I tried from Dell Support site to find out Windows 8.1 drivers for my laptop model and I could only get Windows 7, Vista or XP drivers.

Is there any specific path to get those Windows 8.1 drivers?

Thanks

The Win 10 upgrade will run using whatever drivers are already on the computer. Drivers go with the computer, not the operating system. Driver updates usually only correct newly arisen problems, or add features, such as support of newer processors. Win 10 will recognize if a particular driver is incompatible and install a new driver for that piece of hardware or install a generic driver. After installation, you can go to the Device Manager and see what drivers are installed and then check with the hardware manufacturer to see if a Win 10 (or even 8.1) is available. Most often the only serious issues are with video drivers. You could see problems with touch pad and wireless drivers. I have upgraded six computers so far from Win 8.1 to Win 10. Three OLD ones (8-10 years old) are now on generic video drivers, but actually perform better than with Win 8.1 using official Win 8.1 drivers.

Good going! Glad to see someone NOT bashing Dell and MS.

Since installing, I have been able to get two of the three with generic video drivers working with Nvidia drivers. One to go. I was one of the only three users of Win 8 to actually like it. Win 10 is even better, and all my machines run better and faster.
