Try getting the update from Windows Update. Windows is Microsoft's not Dell's.

I had no problems, done via Windows Update.

Do you get and error?

Why are you using an ISO image may I ask? That might actually do a 'Clean Install'?

Check this out though, https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows11

How did it fail?

You look in the Event Viewer and you might find an Error:

If you get an error code while downloading and installing Windows updates, the Update Troubleshooter can help resolve the problem. Select Start > Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters.

Try running CHKDSK /F on the C: drive too in an Adminstrator CMD prompt in case there is some disk corruption.

To check if Windows 11 is ready for your device, go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and select Check for updates. If the upgrade is available for your device and you want to proceed, download and install it.

In Settings, under the UPDATE, look at the HISTORY, mine looks like this:

ispalten_0-1667746530467.png

Make sure it doesn't show anywhere in the list. If it shows FAILED the LEARN MORE might tell you why? Also, there is on that same Settings page this:

Use the > to find the update and uninstall it.

I assume you've used WinVer to verify what you actually have?

From what you've said above, it appear that Windows Update already thinks it has been installed?

Thanks, but WinVer says:

Version 21H2 (OS 22000.1165)

This might explain it?

This is the version you are on, https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/october-25-2022-kb5018483-os-build-22000-1165-preview-8b337b02-4bde-4971-b205-ad828f953fff

Did you install a PREVIEW version before, or part of the MS Insider?

I am on this one, https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/october-11-2022-kb5018427-os-build-22621-674-f14ec4b2-1901-42e9-94cb-015169c49b62

I don't think once on the Dev or Insider track you can install the released updates?

You should be able to check it and get off of it though:

===============

Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Insider Program > Stop Insider Preview Builds to see your options. If you're in the Beta Channel or the Release Preview Channel, you can flip the switch to stop getting preview builds on your device when the next major release of Windows launches to the public.

===============

Than I suspect you can install the latest WU release from Windows Update (might have to have it 'check' to see it again>

Welll, I'd try and figure out how you got the 'Preview' on the system first? Can't, I'd do a C: back up (use Macrium Free if you don't have a true back up program) and then uninstall the Preview and see if you can install 22H2 (I'd hope it would then show up in Windows Update after it was removed)... Otherwise, the only other solution, which could be a lot of work, is to use the Windows Media Creation tool and the 22H2 ISO file to do a CLEAN INSTALL... not something I'd want to do to a PC with over a years use on it. I'd only do that if it were my only option or I didn't care what I had as it was easily recreated.

Wow, your update History is completely different from mine:

ispalten_0-1667910051870.png

You appear to be STUCK on the ORIGINAL update to W11? Missing all the newer versions of W11?

I'm reluctant to offer any suggestions at this point?

I am assuming you are on W11 and registered via Dell? Not one that you installed manually or worked about a TPM issue (I'm sure you didn't do that) or something else to get W11 installed?

I suspect this is more an MS issue than Dell's?

I suggest you visit the MS W11 forum and ask why you can't update there? Maybe they might know?

Report back here if you get it worked out, as I'd be interested to know why?

I fear suggesting anything else at this point could damage the OS to the point of not being able to even boot?

Sorry.

Maybe someone else could chime in and suggest another reason why you can't update?
