Precision 7520, not validated by Dell for Windows 11
My laptop has TPM 2.0 and the i7-7820HQ. It was built and received in 2018. It is a little over 3 years old and was being offered at ~$3500. Evidently, it will not be cleared to upgrade to Windows 11 and Dell isn't planning on supporting it. Does anyone know why? Intel has this processor in its Surface offerings. MS site is showing these (currently) as being supported (with this same processor).
This link was found at the bottom of the page (following the [1] link for the i7-7820HQ[1]) =
Dell Precision 5520
Surface Studio 2
Thanks,
Mike

Hello,
Sadly, the check says the processor isn't supported (Red). All others are Green. Is there anywhere to petition Dell to review the Precision 7520 for Windows 11? They seem to have stopped reviewing at the 7530, which started shipping a few months after mine was built in 2018.
Thanks,
Mike

Just out of curiosity did you download and run the PC Health Check App? That would appear to be the final word on whether your system would be supported on Windows 11. If it passes then you are good to go. And my experience was that Windows 11 installed all the drivers my system required. Remember this is Windows 10 based so many if not all Windows 10 drivers might work.
That health app is available here at the bottom of the page..
Now the only caveat is this. If your system is not supported by Dell for Windows 11 and you need service down the road, then Dell support will insist that you reinstall Windows 10 before they can offer assistance. And you will not have any Windows 11 drivers available on the support page for your system.

The Dell computers listed in the article, "Dell computers tested for upgrade to Windows 11" are set. The March 2017 released Precision 7520 will not be added.

Well, mine was built March 2018. I guess I got the very short end of the stick since the 7530 was released around June 2018. Wonderful.

3yrs ago it was the most powerful workstation in the world, your words (dell) not mine. I feel absolutely sick to the stomach that I paid all that money for a beast of a laptop and now it is old hat. I feel like smashing it to pieces and throwing it in the garbage. You definitely won’t ever be getting anymore of my hard earned…ever. Disgusted.

If you want to use windows 11, just do a clean install and it will run fine. Microsoft kept record of your machine license and drivers, it will be activated and loaded all proper drivers for you to choose (check in optional update). Currently running win 11 on over ten year old machines and they received all the update just fine (KB5006674).

The Precision 7520 was sold until May 2018. Because you can buy 5 years support in my oppinion it should be supported until may 2023 with mayor updates.(Especially for the price this notebooks cost too)
I use my PCs and Notebooks typical up to 10 years and give a lot of money to get robust hardware. My device is now only 4 years old and should be waste? (Say not, that I can still use Windows 10. We all know, that everyone will be forced to change it to Windows 11 because of program support the next time) And where is here the environmental protection if working hardware will be wasted?
I have one with i7-7820HQ and one with Xeon E3-1505M both with vPro. Pcheahthcheck list both as not compatible although the i7-7820HQ is listed from microsoft and the Xeon E3-1505M is from hardware the same processor only with activated ECC. (And the 7. Generation of Intel has all functions including MBEC which are needed) And: For official Support from Microsoft I would have to buy now a new notebook with a supported Processor. But how I can be sure that Microsoft will be not decide with the next servicepack that there will be again sort out working hardware and the new device will be than waste too?
If there will be no official Windows 11 support, could Dell at least deliver inofficial support: Drivers which are capable to run Windows 11?

Welcome to the Dell Community @Fro-C
I am using an E5530 3rd gen i3-3110M with TPM 1.2. as a test unit.
Fresh W11 install 10/6/21:
System had W10 previously installed and automatically was activated with a W11 digital license.
All W11 drivers, updates and Optional updates installed.
On 10/14/21 I received 5 W11 Security and Cumulative Updates.
Then going to "Optional Updates" I found nine more W11 Updates.
6 Intel Updates, 1 STMicroelectronics Update, 1 Broadcom Update and 1 Dell HIDclass driver update.
https://www.dell.com/community/Latitude/Fresh-W11-install-on-an-E5530-i3-3110M-TPM-1-2/m-p/8049730#M36667
I will continue to check for Microsoft update support and post there, as needed.
Best regards,
U2

The main different of Windows 11 vs 10 is the visual and mobile support. The core operating system is still the same as Windows 10. If it is unofficial, Dell won't tell you but you can grab couple of the tested for upgrade to Windows 11 from Dell and comparing drivers version, they are the same drivers as Windows 10. I don't know what change Dell will have down the road, but with this first release, Dell uses Windows 10 drivers for tested machines. Your can try out Windows 11 by doing clean install with a new drive, if you don't like it, just pop back your old drive, no harm done.

I just picked up a secondhand Precision 7520 for next to nothing, and I'm going to install Linux on it now.

Guys, this is not in the hands of Dell, but of Microsoft.
They decided on the minimum cpu, and all the oems are in the same boat. I think that if ALL the big brands acted together, something could have been possible... but otherwise...

I'm curious. According to Microsoft the Precision 5520 laptop is Win 11 compatible, but according to Dell that is not the case. Can you explain this difference ? Moreover, the Precision 7520 TPM 2.0 and the i7-7820HQ.uses the same processor and graphics card as the Precision 5520, so what is the difference between the models that makes one compatible and the other not ?
