natakuc4 - Thank you for the information.  This is why we are no longer considering Dell as a source for our future systems.  The e6510 is still under the original dell warranty yet Dell won't even support the newest OS with drivers.

Bye, bye Dell

I hope you are successful on an unofficial release for those who want to upgrade to Windows 8 - thank you

The hardware IDs should be covered with the ControlVault driver:

http://ftp.dell.com/FOLDER01400368M/26/CV_Drv_Setup_RDYG9_A11_64bit_ZPE.exe

See here:

http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19243343?pi239031352=2

That disk looks like MBR but you should have a 500 MB system reserved partition which isn't displaying in your screenshot...

Hi Ravibn,

Welcome to the Community,

I am afraid we don't have any update about availability of Windows 8 drivers  for this system right now. However you can keep a check on www.support.dell.com,Drivers and Downloads, for availability of Windows 8 drivers for your system, after the official release of Windows 8,which most likely would happen towards late October.

Thank You

To be honest Windows 8 natively contains a lot of drivers, on my XPS 8300 (not supported by Dell) Windows 8 contained all the drivers required, I didn't need to install anything additional.

You are best to install Windows 8 (preferably via A Clean Install) and then check the device manager for any errors. See here for a guide on performing A Clean install of Windows 8. Step 12 goes through the Device Manager checks. For the Bluetooth use the following driver http://ftp1.dell.com/folder00865420m/1/.

Dear Natakuc4,

I have installed Win 8 release preview on a VHD and most things are working, but some devices do need the driver.

Like the touchpad does not work the way it has to. So the native drivers may not deliver the full functionality that the device might be capable to deliver.

DVD drives are not burning, but can read only.

For other additional devices on this machine not checked or verified.

So the Intel chipset specific functionality is not verified.

Display is NVidia NVS 3100 not verified .......

Smartcard not checked.....

The list goes on and on.............................................

I do not know whether it is the specific windows 8 version or the drivers.

So it needs a through check before we could really say we do not need any drivers for this model.

It could be because you have it on a Virtual Hard drive, usually doing that is a bit limited for burning DVDs etc.

I have the need for the correct NVidia driver for my E6510 now running Windows 8.

It is currently using the 'Microsoft Basic Display Adapter' which means I can't use my external monitor when docked and I cannot run apps that require accelerated graphics.

Windows 8 shipped over a month ago...

When will Dell publish drivers for the E6510?

If there is no intent to do so, I need to know this as well.

Thanks,

Bogdan

Dell have documentation for their supported systems here:

http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/kcs/document?docid=575111#Latitude

It seems like they won't be supporting any earlier models. Dell however do sell newer Latitude models with Windows 8 drivers. Most of the components are similar/the same so you should try to install them.

Try installing the following however (I am assuming Windows 8 64 bit):

Dell Feature Enhancement Pack: http://downloads-us.dell.com/FOLDER00801548M/1/

Dell ST Microelectronics DE351DL Motion Sensor: http://ftp1.dell.com/folder00951951m/6/

Ricoh R5U24x (the WIndows 7 driver should work for this): http://ftp.dell.com/chipset/DRVR_WIN_R261504.EXE

Intel Rapid Storage Technology: http://downloads-us.dell.com/FOLDER00886417M/5

Intel GMA HD, HD 2000/2500/3000/4000 http://downloads-us.dell.com/FOLDER00933796M/6

nVidia Quadro FX 880M, Quadro FX 1800M, NVS 3100M: http://downloads-us.dell.com/FOLDER00947291M/6 (if that fails try nVidea directly http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/quadro-notebook-win8-win7-winvista-64bit-307.45-whql-driver-uk.html)

Static Inventory Collector: http://ftp.dell.com/FOLDER00874579M/1/InvColPC_7.0.38.1.exe

DSIA http://ftp.dell.com/FOLDER00874570M/1/DSIAPC_1.4.1.313.msi

IDT 92HDxxx HD: http://downloads-us.dell.com/FOLDER00788650M/5/

Dell Multi-Touch Touchpad: http://downloads-us.dell.com/FOLDER00716278M/4

Intel 825xx Gigabit Platform LAN Network Device: http://downloads-us.dell.com/FOLDER00919845M/6/

Intel 825xx Gigabit Platform LAN Network Device diagnostics: http://downloads-us.dell.com/FOLDER00920040M/5

Intel(R) WiFi Link 6250/6300 | Intel(R) WiDi Link: http://downloads-us.dell.com/FOLDER01032648M/1 (if you have this wireless card)

Intel(R) WiFi Link 6250/6300 | Intel(R) WiDi Link apppication: http://downloads.dell.com/FOLDER01010554M/1 (if you have this wireless card)

Dell Bluetooth 375 card use the Bluetooth 380 Driver here: http://ftp1.dell.com/folder00865420m/1/ (If you have Bluetooth)

ControlPoint System Manger: R312259

Broadcom USH (run in compatability for Vista SP2): DELL_CONTROLPOINT-CONNECTION_A11_R207459.exe

Let me know if the above work or not so I can write an unofficial driver set wiki for this model.

natakuc4,

Thanks for your reply!

I hope to buy a new lappy as the upgrade will not really serve the purpose.

without touch it is not complete upgrade

To my great surprise I found this www.portronics.com/handmate-windows-8-pen.html which can substitute for touch.  But the problem is with Win 8 drivers.

If Dell takes care of the drivers then I would look fwd to get my system updated to WIn 8

Hi Natacuk4,

I used the above guideline to install Windows 8 on my E6510. My feedback:

- Don't have bluetooth, so can't say if that works.

- Had to use the download from nVidia itself. The provided download failed on my laptop.

- During install of the Control Point System Manager, it reported that an newer version was already in place.

- IDT 92HDxxx HD fails because I have the nVidia audio hardware.

- The Broadcom USH link doesn't work. Downloaded it from http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/04/DriverDetails?driverId=R207459
And still, device manager won't find a drive for the swipe sensor. Tried http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/04/DriverDetails/Product/latitude-e6510?driverId=RDYG9&osCode=W764&fileId=3214343883&languageCode=EN&categoryId=SY and that works... at least device manager recognizes the swipe sensor now. During this install it says that it requires a firmware upgrade. The download for that firmware upgrade is http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/04/DriverDetails/Product/latitude-e6510?driverId=TJ9CD&osCode=W764&fileId=3169010321&languageCode=EN&categoryId=SY but this one fails.
It complains about not being able to run these 16bit command line tools.

Since your post is some months old, I can image that newer drivers exist but so far, it sort of worked for me.

- Had to use the download from nVidia itself. The provided download failed on my laptop. - Same here for win8x64.

I am also unable to get it to work with 3 monitors while on the e-port-plus dock (be it 2 dell dvi FP2001, or 2 24" viewsonic-led). The windows option to select monitors "sees" the 3rd monitor, but tells me it is an invalid configuration when trying to extend to it. This is the main thing I would like to get resolved (and not by using a usb based video adapter, the win8-netflix app freaks out over licensing & even with the device unplugged & disabled netflix still refuses to run).

I am also not having much luck with the fingerprint sensor. I'll give the dos based firmware update a shot & see if the drivers/software recognize it then. Everything else seems to be working fine though, including the "unknown device" which is the freefall sensor.

Thanks!

KKBass,

You may have to upgrade the driver from NVida refer to this url http://www.nvidia.in/object/quadro-notebook-win8-win7-64bit-320.78-whql-driver-in.html.

This might help in setting up multiple monitors.
