windows 8.1 not installing error 0x8004005
Update gets to restart and then fails.with above error code. Have tried repairing boot; safe boot, disabling malwarebytes and multiple repeats without success.
My computer is an XPS 15 L502X, came with windows 7 , upgraded with purchased disk to 8 Pro.
Any thoughts?

Perhaps doing a search for "Windows 8 install error codes" will get you the info that you need.
I've just done a quick search in Google and the above words in quotes popped down for me.
I don't have time to search the sites for that error code, but Windows seems to have a section for Start Screen.
Also try doing the search with the error code included.
Prob. someone here can give you a more detailed and focused answer, but just in case I thought I'd pass on this/these reference(s).

That's what I've been doing. So far nothing I've tried has worked. It's unfortunate there isn't an iso.
I'm considering doing a repair install of Windows 8 and the update but that would mean reinstalling all applications that are not Microsofts. Very inconvenient and time consuming. We also have an IMAC and their updates to system seem more considerate.
Thanks
