I'm having that same problem as well. I've tried uninstalling Java (1.4.2.03) and installing a newer version (1.50), but I'm still getting the same lagging effect. I also ran VirusScan, but I didn't get any results.

Also, it seems to only occur when I drag IM or Away windows in AIM, and nowhere else. I've tried many different versions of AIM, and they all have the same problem. Does anyone have any ideas on what it could be?

Thanks.

try to uninstall and reinstall AIM

October 1st, 2005 17:00

I've tried that a couple of times, but I still haven't had any luck with it. I've also tried using older versions of AIM, but the problem still occurs. Right now, I've turned off the "Show Window Contents While Dragging" effect in the Appearance tab of Display properties. It seems to work ok if I do that, but the lagging still shouldn't occur in the first place.

Your compter is more than enough to run AIM. Did you Scan your computer for any viruses lately? Also try clearing the Temporary Internet Files. Open internet explorer. Go to internet options then tools.  When that tools window opens you should see Temporary Internet Files. Then click delete Cookies. then click delete files and check the box that has all offline content. Hope this works.

Yes. I scanned my files for viruses and adware. I found a virus in Java, which prompted me to reinstall it in the first place. I also installed AIM, reinstalled it, erased the Temp. Internet files, cleaned my cache, the works. I have 512 MB RAM, and I have no idea why it's acting up.

okay there is probably a virus on your pc if it lags when the cpu usage is 3% go to yahoo and type in AVG FREE download it. Its good. works for me. Also do alt cntrl delete and see how many processes are running while JUST aim is open it is at the bottom left hand corner.

when you ran aim, did you have only that open? If you did not, close all background applications.  Startup your pc. Then do alt cntrl delete see how many processes you have. you should not exceed around low 30s. your  420mb pf usage should not be when you have only aim open. It should be under 200mb. Does anything else lag on your pc?

I ran the virus program you suggested: no virus found. I also ran Trend Micro and McAffee but no virus was found. I'm sorry for troubling you, but any other ideas?

also it should not normally lag. My old laptop that has 96mb or ram and a 4gb hardrive and only about intel celeron 400MHZ processor. It doesnt lag on mine. Is your firewall blocking aim?

No my firewall is not blocking AIM.

I ran my computer on safe mode and ran McAfee...still no virus found. WHen I exited all programs except AIM, there were over 30 processes running (even McAfee ones even though I exited the program.) When I exited AIM and restarted, the CPU usage jumped to 29% then back to 2%. I don't know what else to do.
