AdobePhotoDeluxe and Umax Astra 3400 scanner problem

Hi,

I had to do a clean install. Prior to that, my Astra 3400 scanner worked perfectly with AdobePhotoDeluxe 3.0 Home Edition.

I first disabled NAV2003, then I installed the software that came with Umax and then loaded AdobePhotoDeluxe, plugged in the scanner.   Now the scanner test OK and can scan using vista scan.  When I go to Adobe Photo Deluxe/get photo/select scanner/choose scanner, I receive VistaScan 32 V3.73 as the only option, I then select it and tell it O.K., then go to Mode and I receive the error notice " Could not complete your request because a problem with the scanner."

Everything mentioned above came with my Dell 4100 Dimension. I have windowsMe.

I know there is a trick to this, because of a clean install I had someone do for me a year ago, but, I don't know what he did.

I would appreciate any help or suggestions.  Thanks, newbeee

I fixed it.  removed everything pertaining to Umax software, removed Photo Deluxe, unpluged scanner, closed all programs except systray and explorer, ran a defrag. Keeping all background programs closed except Explorer and Systray, installed photodeluxe, then umax, plugged in scanner, test it was O.K., went to Photo Deluxe, scanner option, hi-lighted Vista Scan 32V3.73 and told it O.K. and it works.

this is for your info if someone else has the same problem Take care, Newbeee

Hi newbee.  I, too, have had problems with Astra 3400 (actually Astra 3450 that has capability of scanning transparencies).  I plan to duplicate your procedure.  One question.  You stated that you first disabled NAV2003.  I don't know what that is or why you did it.  Is this important?

Did you uninstall only VistaScan?  How about all of the others like:  Vista Shuttle, Copy Utility, Page Manager, Page Type, OmniPage, and Acrobat Reader?

I have posted a message about my problem that you might like to consult.

Thanks, seefeldtwb

Hi ther seefeldtwb,

I did uninstall everything pertaining to VistaScan.  If you look at the label on the vistascan CD, it should show you all the programs it installed.  Unplug your scanner from the tower and the electric.  Use your add/remove program (if you have win/me)

I then uninstalled PhotoDeluxe.

I then hit control/alt/delete at the same time and it list all the running programs in the background.  I "end task" to all (one at a time) except systray and explorer.  That's where I close my antivirus  Norton.  I think it's titled ccapp.  Some my pop up at you and ask to "end task" again.   Closing these programs allows you to defrag faster and have a clean install on new software. I also close my screensaver. Right click a blank spot on your home page, go to properties>screensaver tab>select "none">apply>ok

I always defrag after I remove software then reinstall it.

Good luck, I'll check out your latest post, which forum, how long ago,& subject?

Hope this helped, let me know on this post,

Hi newbee again:  the following is a duplicate of what I replied to my own posting elsewhere.

Forum Member "newbeee" with Dimension 400/Windows ME had comparable problem.  He responded with a procedure that I followed (in fact, did it twice), but it did not give me a solution.  Forum Member "Donnernv" has also reponded to the problem, and, at my request, e-mailed a guaranteed solution for Windows ME (did not know whether it would work with Windows 98SE).

Paralleling all of this activity, "Ben C" at UMAX responded to my problem with yet another solution identified as being applicable to Windows 95/98/98SE/ME/2000.  This morning I tried it and it worked.  The scanner is also less sluggish than it was before the problem developed.

I am greatful to "newbeee", "Donnernv", and finally  "Ben C" in being so willing to help.

I will send you "Ben C"s solution to anyone who requests it.  WalMar417@netzero.net

PS:  I had thought that my problem was related to Adobe Photo Deluxe, and turned out not to be.  I like (and used it repeatedly) to defragment following "uninstalling."  Note that in "Ben C"s solution, only VistaScan was uninstalled.

Thanks a million for your diligence.
