Alt key seems stuck?

I have a c840 XP pro and when I start it it's fine, but after about 5 min it seems to think the ALT key is being pressed when it is not. When I try to double click an icon on the desktop it opens properties, but I can right click and open things. Also sometimes the curser will get stuck to where I can touch the pad or move the pointer and nothing, but if I hold any key on the keyboard it will move?
I tried to do a system restore to before this started occurring and that has not helped at all.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you for posting your message at the Dell Community Forums.

Do you have these problems with an external mouse and keyboard as well?

Yes, if I attempt to double click an icon it opens properties. Even with an external mouse or keyboard connected. Right now the cursor will not move unless I press another button simultaneously on the keyboard.
I am also unable to type in boxes, it just beeps.
If I press Tab by itself the quick switch menu(alt+tab) pops up but I am unable to switch programs. Also occasionally when I try to right click the menu appears for a flash but doesn't stay up.

Thank you for the response

Sounds like a software issue. If you boot into Windows Safe Mode, same issue? If not, you might try searching for spyware and/or performing a system restore prior to the problem beginning.

Anyone have any other ideas?
