Any way to turn off Dell support alerts?

Hi,
How do I turn off the Dell support alerts? I've tried using the "alert settings" option in the system tray popup menu for Dell Support, and I've clicked on "Yes" when asked to confirm that I want to disable logging. I've also exited Dell Support Alerts by clicking on "Exit" in the popup; but when I reboot, the icon is back and alert logging is set back to "notify me..." etc. Is there a trick to getting this thing to stay disabled?

Thanks,

BOMOONDIM,

The trick is to go into Add/Remove Programs and uninstall Dell Support, a program which has never worked as envisioned.

I once received a fax with a note on the bottom to fax the document back to the sender when I was finished with it, because he needed to keep it. :smileyvery-happy:

Guys,

If you are running Windows XP, you can also right click on the Taskbar and select "Properties."  Make sure that the "Hide inactive icons" box is checked.  If you click on "Customize", you can select how you want each item in your system tray to be represented.  For instance, you can "Always Show", "Always Hide", or "Hide When Inactive" any program that shows up in your system tray.  Just select "Always Hide" for the "Dell Alerts" icon and click ok to save the changes.  You won't be bothered by Support Alerts if you don't want them.  Perhaps this might be an easier option for some, rather than uninstalling the program.  I used the customize feature to make sure my Norton security/virus checker were always shown in the system tray so that I could see what they are doing at all times.

Jack,
I tried that; but even when I configured the alert logging not to deliver alerts (in the "notify me..." pane) the option was reset to deliver alerts when I restarted the machine. The only option that worked for me was uninstalling the support program as suggested in Denny's response. For me, at least, the support program has a bug that prevents alert logging from staying turned off. As usual, that's just the way it goes with these things.

BTW, I didn't find uninstalling the program to be any more difficult than hiding the icon in the system tray. Also, your example regarding Norton Security/Virus applies to a completely different program which does not behave and/or misbehave as does the Dell Support program. Perhaps your method does work well with Norton Security; but that doesn't mean it can serve as an example of how hiding the icon will or will not work for Dell Support.

Whatever, it's been fixed.

Have a good day, everyone !!!!
