Anyone know any good driver tools that can identify what driver's you need to upgrade?

Hi,

I just reinstalled XP on my system and am trying to get the most up to date drivers for my system. Problem is I'm and fairly new to all this and not to good at interpreting what I actially need. The the dell driver download page has a lot on there and I'm not really sure if they will all apply to my system. Is the an easy way (ie links to a fairly dumbed down instructions on how to update your drivers) to correlate what my system components from my device manager and what I actually need.

Thx.

If you go to Dell Support and enter your Service Tag or model, you will be taken to a page with all the correct drivers for your system

This site will tell you which drivers it thinks are needing updated
http://driveragent.com/?ref=90

You will have to pay to be taken to the download sites or just go get them yourself

Don`t take a BIOS update unless you REALLY need it

Whatever you do, I'd recommend not falling for that trap with the so called "driver dectective" programs; or similar wording... A complete ripoff.
They lure people in with something like ...  "Let us scan your computer and find updated drivers".  Of course after their free scan, and just like magic,  you'll be given the opportunity to purchase the drivers from them.

That is a total bunch of bunk..... because the user can easily obtain their necessary drivers from the Dell Drivers and Downloads site.

If you're not positively sure what drivers you require, run the Belarc utility as mentioned, or the Dell one that runs a scan of your system. I don't have the link at this typing right now.....otherwise I'd put it here for you....

EDIT >>>   LOL ....  I was typing at the same precise time as you; guess I'm a very slow typist.....:smileyvery-happy:

Ok, I'm aware of the dell driver download list, it was where I went first.

My problem is the list is rather extensive and I want to know which ones correspond to me - on this note I managed to get most of the ones I require however I still have 2 'Other Devices' one being a 'Multimedia Video Controller' and one being an 'Unknown Device'.

I concur Tommoyo, those driver scan sites are a waste of time and am aware of them, thx.

1) How do I find out what these devices are and;
2) Will they be on the list that the dell driver download site gives me when I put in my Model Number.

Of note, I haven't added any extra components to my computer so these unknown devices came with my computer from the start.

Also can you elaborate on Belarc, it takes me to a site, but which one of the add ons will scan my system and give me driver info?

Or any chance of getting that link to the dell scanner?

Cheers.

Make sure you have the basics:  ChipSet, Video, Audio, NIC, Wireless, then get the minor ones by a poecess of elimination and study.  Also, study the System Tag number to cross reference with the original configuration.
