Application Error 0xc0150004

Application Error 0xc0150004 when trying to install new software

Please can anyone help.  I have very recently received my brand new Dell Studio 1737 Laptop running Vista Home Premium.

The first thing I did was uninstall the evaluation copy of McAfee (using the Mcafee uninstall tools) and reinstalled the full version from McAfee (I have the 3 licence copy which I run on my Dell Dimension 500)

My problem is that I am trying to install Photoplus X2 from Serif, but although it appears to install, when I try and run it I get the application error code 0xc0150004.
(I am able to install it on my Dimension 500 running XP so I know the disc is OK)

I have googled on this error code and looked in other forums before posting here.  Quite a number of people appear to be having problems installing any new software, all getting the same error message - and the common theme appears to be Dell computers received over the last month.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Any help in resolving it would be appreciated.

Is the program Vista compatable?

you could try running it in compatibility mode for XP

Here is some good advice when installing Programs or Drivers in Vista, This is good advice even if the Program was designed for Vista.

Here is how to install software or drivers on Vista that are for XP,2000,NT4,98,95

1. Download your program to a folder of choice, Right click on the setup.exe file for the software/driver you are trying to install and select properties, if there is an "Unblock" button on the General Tab, click it, then go to the compatibility Tab

2. Tick the "run this file in compatibility mode" box and then select XP, or whatever OS the software was designed for, in the drop down box, Tick "run as Administrator" if it is available, hit OK. If it was designed for Vista then skip compatibility and only use run as administrator.

3. Now double click this setup.exe file to execute the install process, hopefully all will go well and install the drivers/Software you need.

4. If the exe installs software for the device, or you have installed software only, you need to navigate to the program folder where it installed, then do the compatibility thing (1 & 2) again for the program executable(s). If the program was designed for Vista skip compatibility mode, just tick "run as administrator"

I do not guarantee all drivers or software to work in Vista, but a large percentage do..

Good luck.

If the Software/ installer (exe file) is on CD, copy the entire contents of the CD to a folder you make in Vista, then start at #1

There is no compatibility mode for .msi installers
16 bit programs will not run on Vista x64

If Drivers are in INF form, go to Device manager, find the hardware you want to install a driver for and right click select "Update Driver Software", select "Browse My Computer for Driver Software", Hit the Browse button, navigate to the folder with the driver and then hit next. Follow the prompts.

Thanks everyone for the advice and suggestions, which I have tried with no sucess.

Yes, Serif Photoplus X2 is Vista compatible, and I have tested this out on a friend's non-Dell laptop and works a treat.

It installs fine on my new Dell, it just won't run!

Thankfully I have had really prompt and helpful support from the Serif Customer Support team (I wish all companies were half as good as they have been), but sadly it seems the problem lies in the build of Visual Basic.

I have received a Dell Studio 15 1555 with the same issue, specifically trying to install MS Document Imaging, Scan component, which is not installed by default.

I get the message below.

So far, I have installed, deinstalled the Epson print drivers, scan software etc, installed MS Office complete once

Run McAfee removal tool twice, and deinstalled some Dell software.

Editted the registry as per a thread I found.

The only help from Dell was they would send a tech to reinstall the entire OS, bang goes 2 days migration work.

It is clear to me that

a/ Dell have  general problem with new laptops, some sort of build issue

b/ They appear not to realise there is a general problem.

I was told I did not have any software support I should go to microsoft, microsoft tells me to go to Dell, so there is no support for software on Dell computers even if it is a build issue based on the comments from the Dell Support team.

I just hope that someone in Dell realises they need to tackle this before I send the whole lot back, pity our last Dell is 12 years old and still working perfectly apart from 10 blown pixels on the screen.

Hi, It's now a week since I asked for help from Dell. My new Inspiron 1545 has never been on the internet (so it's not contaminated from there) and refuses to install simple software without a 0xc0150004 error. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi, I had the same error code with Groove Monitor and BTTray. I ignored it until I got the same error with some new software I had bought. I found the answer in one of the other threads, solution posted by iSmiles. This is the link:

http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/dsn/en/document?c=us&dl=false&l=en&s=gen&docid=6CF68D431EAAB41BE040AE0AB6E16686&doclang=en

It is a Dell article but annoyingly doesn't mention the error code so is not so easy to find. Take care to download the correct version of the code for your Windows version, for me it was  ENU (vcredist_x86.exe) which is for English 32 bit.

Thanks nickhay.  iSmiles' solution (to fix a corrupt version of the MFC80.dll file that was included in the DataSafe local build) worked brlliantly to fix the 0xc0150004 error I was getting when installing new software on my DELL 530 (Vista Home Premium 32 Bit OS).  The 0xc0150004 error simply stopped the new software (ESET Nod 32  anti-virus and Logitech Setpoint mouse/keyboard)  from loading or functioning properly.  I have a sense that it will help many people out there with similar  0xc0150004 errors (I've seen them for AVG anti-virus, COREL Paintshop PRO,  and more).   Happy days are here again!.

Thank you nickhay, your solution was exactly right. My problem was with an Adobe product, but the error message was the same. I never would have thought of it as a 'DELL' problem. Silly me.

Nice catch.
