Atikmdag.sys causes to slow down Vista

Vista tells me that my videocard driver (ATi Xpress 1150) "atikmdag.sys" causes to slow down Vista, when trying to get out of standby mode. I installed the newest driver version 7.9, but it's still the same. I also have all the Vista Updates from Microsoft.

Are there more people with this message form Vista?

Hi Carlitos85
Do you have the Inspiron 1501 with the (ATi Xpress 1150)  video built on the motherboard ?

If you do Dell has a new Bios to download that should fix the resume from standby mode.
The link for the Bios is here.

Read the Installation Instructions close it will show you how to install the new Bios !
If you do not have the { {Inspiron 1501 do not use these Bios}}.
The new Bios are to fix Issue .
1. Update the AMD errata
2. Enhance S3 resume function

If you fell you can not install the new Bios yourself call Dell support and let them help you !
Good Luck

Hi,

Thank you both for your great reply! I did't know what S3 was:smileysurprised:
I'm going to update the BIOS and see what happens! (Note: do you advise to download the" Ati South Bridge Driver?)

I have 1 other thing to ask: I have the Ati Xpress 1150 256 MB Hypermemory according to my order confirmation of Dell. My performance score on grafic desktop performance is 2.8 in Vista. The strange thing is that Vista tells me that i have a 128MB videocard, and the Catalyst Control Centre also.

Is it because the motherbord has a 128mb videocardchip and the other 128mb is from the internal memory? I know it's not a "real" videocard, because of the Hypermemory thing. (I have 2 gig RAM memory so that should be ok.)

Thanks
Carl

Hypermemory is shared memory, the card probably has 32meg onboard and the rest is shared/borrowed system memory.

Its another way to mis-represent a video card. I too have a ATI X300 hypermemory video card. :smileysad:

Where did you get interested in the southbridege driver?

Ususally It is part of the chipset driver for your motherboard.

Not sure if the ATI card has one of these.

Do you think it's recommended to download en install the newest version? (south bridge)
Normally i only install the driver itself.

I don't know, start a new thread with this question, maybe someone more informed can answer this.

Post in the Notebook/Video forum. Be sure to include the Model of Dell and OS.

the drivers may improve Vista in one way or others !
