Autoexec.nt & Config.nt Expansion Problem

This problem starts off by trying to install the current version of my business database.  Upon doing so, I get this error message:  C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT.  The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications.  Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

So, I get on the horn and find out from my business database company that I needed to go to Microsoft's support site (a link was provided) and follow their instructions on expanding the files so that I could install the new version of this database that I need to.  However, upon following the instructions, it isn't working.

Can someone help me?  I need to expand these two files so that I can install this software =/

Thanks in advance!

You must be an ADMINISTRATOR on the local machine! :smileyhappy:

To expand the two files do the following:

Insert your Windows XP CD into the drive (I'm assuming it's your D: drive). The correct location for those two files is in the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 directory; you can confirm this on your side if you want. What you want to do is expand the files from the source directory ( D:\i386) into the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 directory:

Open up a command prompt (Start > Run > (type) cmd (and press enter))

then type in the following to expand AUTOEXEC.NT_:

EXPAND D:\i386\AUTOEXEC.NT_ C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32
...you will get a confirmation message saying:
Expanding D:\i386\AUTOEXEC.NT_ to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32

Then type in the following to expand CONFIG.NT_:

EXPAND D:\i386\CONFIG.NT_ C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32
...you will get a confirmation message saying:
Expanding D:\i386\CONFIG.NT_ to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32

This should expand the original two files into the correct directory.

I sugest you restart your machine at this point before trying to reinstall the database software.

If the problem persists it may have something to do with the database software or installing the latest patches on your machine for Windows and Office...

Hope this helps...
