BIOS fails to start Windows the first time

Question

Often, when I start my computer (Dell Dim 4600 purchased in dec 2004), BIOS fails to start Windows at the first attempt. I get an error message with a number of start options. I choose "start Windows as usual" (which the system suggests) and then Windows starts in 25 seconds (at least until now).

Anyone any idea what the problem can be?

From what you have described the problem is with the operating system rather than the BIOS. You would get a better response by posting your problem in the Software - Windows XP forum here. Be sure to include the exact error message you are getting in order to help the people responding resolve your problem.
