BSOD XP Registry Error STOP: 0x00000051 (0x00000004, 0x00000001, 0xE45F8148, 0x022C8BA0)

I originally posted this error and thought I had fixed it.  I was mistaken.  The problem is associated with Windows Media Player (WMP) 11.  Whenever WMP 11 is running and I either attempt to stop it, close or exit it, or video finishes playing, the system crashes with the BSOD and error message listed in the subject.  I cannot uninstall or reinstall WMP 11, I get the error BSOD when I try.  I also get the error in safe mode.

Please help.

I can only offer a couple of ideas.

Can you uninstall WMP11 in Safe Mode?

Also have you run the CHKDSK error checking utility in Windows?

Try this new Open Source (Free) registry Checker.

I have 35 years experience and I can tell you this is one of the best free ones I have found.

Good Luck.

Thank you for your reply.  I tried to link to that site but the page doesn't view.

Congratulations on your "Gold" achievement!

Also see if booting into last known good configuration gets rid of the problem.  I believe the problem is caused by a registry corruption.  Also see if any of these articles on the MS website address your issue:   http://support.microsoft.com/search/default.aspx?catalog=LCID%3D1033&query=0x00000051+windows+xp&mode=r

Thank you.

I am surprised as to why you are not seeing the page load up.  I tried it just now and it still works.  Try it with a different browser.

I did link to that site this time.  Maybe their site was down because I was searching for it at 2:00 a.m.

I did look at the other site also and it is possible that the system that needs repair might be a good candidate for the Hot Fix.  I did read that applying these is very risky.

Thanks again for your reply!

Ok... I have Windows Media Player 11 on my computer and I want to go back to WMP 10. Only it's not as easy as it seems because there is no previous version of WMP on my PC, so I can't remove it from the 'Add or Remove Programs' menu, even when I make it show the updates.
